Brightest Day finale, featuring the return(?) of an old favorite. Kinda. Maybe?
Apr. 27th, 2011 12:31 pmSo the final issue of Brightest Day came out, wherein we get the grand reintroduction of Swamp Thing to the DCU! Except... not exactly. And I'm really not sure how to feel about this.
( SPOILERS GALORE behind the cut! )
This is my first time in a long while that I've hastily thrown together a post for a brand new issue. Please let me know if I've screwed up at all with spoilers or anything. Bat-Apologies in advance.

We all know what happened when Swamp Thing met the Floronic Man, (in case you don't it's in the tags), but what happened before, and what happens after?

The request that started this. 7 pages from the 23 page Swamp Thing 34, volume two. 'Rite of Spring' by Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, and John Totleben.
I believe this issue is best read with the live version of 'In-a-godda-da-vida' playing in a different tab. The live version is 20 minutes, just hit to Part 2 and Part 3 as each clip ends. If you prefer the more sedate and contemplative 17 minute studio version, try part 1 then here for the rest.

Alan Moore does the Justice League
Dec. 29th, 2009 09:11 pmI remember someone posted the first page on S_D 1.0. So, reposting 7 pages from 21-page Swamp Thing 25, volume two. I suggest first rereading this post, as it leads directly to this one.( Read more... )

It's a Nerd Alert!
Dec. 26th, 2009 10:03 pmSome people read the last page of a book to see if they're going to like it. I'm the sort of person who reads introductions first. (Not because it makes sense, mind you, but because sometimes I'm a bit OCD.)
I've heard of a few lists lately of recommendations for new comic book readers. Most of them seem to insist on stories that begin and end in the same book. The first graphic novel I read was Swamp Thing, and Alan Moore, well aware of the need to prepare a new reader, used his introduction to try and explain the whys of comic book horror (which I've skipped), the strange framework in which comic book horror resides, and the Story Thus Far.
It is my considered opinion that the Swamp Thing graphic novel of Alan Moore's stories should be required reading. Part of Moore's introduction, and two pages from Swamp Thing issue one, volume two, by Marty Pasko and Tom Yeates, are included for contrast and legality.

Swamp Thing 44: The Bogeyman

Walt Simonson Master Post
Aug. 31st, 2009 08:36 am
Walt Simonson has just about drawn every major character for every major publisher throughout the last thirty-odd years. Best known for his work on Thor, Starslammers, Fantastic Four, Battlestar Galactica and Orion, Simonson’s style has always been lauded as having the energy to rival Jack Kirby’s. But just as his legendary predecessor’s work was seen, all of the subtlety in Simonson’s work is often overlooked. Even in the most frantic piece, Simonson manages give it a quiet sense of characterization.
Hell, he just draws purty, OK?
Since I can easily make thirty different posts based on his covers alone, I’ve posted some of my personal favorite comics and covers by Simonson.

so, as all comic protagonists will do, swamp thing once had dudes from the government gunning for him.
