Dark Horse will launch a new series featuring Elisa Cameron this summer.
She's back, reimagined for 2012! )

As was discussed in the most recent edition of House to Astonish, Vertigo had their lowest sales month on record in January 2012. Happily though, they're launching 4 new series soon, including a Fables spin-off with art by Adam Hughes ).

The one that caught my eye, out of the series released in the digital preview, was Saucer Country, by Ryan Kelly (artist of Local, which really is a fantastic book, and of New York 4 and 5), and written by Paul Cornell, of Action Comics, Demon Knights, Captain Britain and MI:13 et al.

Nicking the solicit text from Espanolbot's post you get

Arcadia Alvarado, the leading Democratic candidate for President of the United States, says she was "abducted by aliens."
As the Mexican-American Governor of New Mexico, she's dealing with immigration, budget cuts and an alcoholic ex. She's about to toss her hat into the ring as a candidate for President in the most volatile political climate ever.
But then...a lonely road and a nightmarish encounter have left her with terrible, half-glimpsed memories. And now she has to become President. To expose the truth – and maybe, to save the world.
Arcadia's quest is at the heart of this new monthly series from writer Paul Cornell (DEMON KNIGHTS, ACTION COMICS, Doctor Who) and artist Ryan Kelly (NEW YORK FIVE, NORTHLANDERS). With the help of her quirky staff, Arcadia will pursue the truth of her abduction into danger, mystery and awe. SAUCER COUNTRY is a dark thriller that blends UFO lore and alien abduction with political intrigue, all set in the hauntingly beautiful Southwest.

There's a small house ad and two pages from the preview underneath. It comes with a warning for discussion on domestic abuse

Hey everyone!
Eyz here. This is my first post ever on scans-daily!
'been following s-d for quite some time now (but still a noob regarding posting/commenting so forgive me in any case!)

Here's a little webcomic parody by writer and artist Aaron Diaz, author of the comic "Dresden Codak". In which they point out and make fun of stereotypical superheroine costumes. More specifically, Wonder Woman and PG's respective costumes.

Yesterday, we were talking about Women's Lib in 70s DC and Showcase 97 was mentioned. You can find it reprinted in the Power Girl pre-Infinite Crisis trade

It's the one with the awesome Adam Hughes cover )

Anyway, on to Showcase 97 )

I've posted this already on Noscans_Daily I'm looking at going for digital comics properly. Buy subscriptions, get a tablet (either a Samsung Galaxy or an HTC Flyer), and so on.

Now, it looks like it's been over 2 years since we've had a talk about going digital.

Here are four questions that I have about digital comics )

Having played around with Comixology, I read some of their free stuff. And here's what I said DC could never do. Except they did it. 5 years ago. )

I said last month thaat It used to be that when DC solicits came out, I checked immediately if Ex Machina was out that month. It never was.

Now the first thing that I do is check the Power Girl solicit, to see who is starring in her book.

You can imagine that each day of reboot announcements without Power Girl led me to be more and more nervous about the fate of the one DC book that I'm picking up and enjoying (Supergirl isn't that good, though I'm eternally optimistic about the next issue).

She's not got her own reboot title. Perhaps she'll part of the expanded JLA lineup, so I can enjoy her being part of the wallpaper like Ms. Marvel is in New Avengers.

I'm just grumping, which I'd rather not do. I'm disappointed.

Instead, I'll post some of the Gray/Palmiotti/Conner run of Power Girl aka Busty Airborne Lass )

Well, I thought it would never happen, I thought DC's plans for "greater diversity" was going to keep one good thing they had going. But No.

I really think I have now completely lost all faith in DC.

As you may have gathered over my time on Scans_daily, I have something of a penchant for collecting commissioned art. It's great fun and when you get it in person you can chat with the artist and end up with some good memories as well as a nice piece of art.

Even when you're dealing with folks via e-mail (which happens a lot with me as I'm stuck in the UK with fewer convention oportunities and fewer big name artists being available when you do (with some exceptions), it's usually a delightful experience, and I think those of us who partake in such experiences would recommend it for others...

However, there's always some bugger making it harder for the rest of us...

No more sketches.... )

And an interesting aside about a certain artists tracing tendencies...

I've been wondering if it was worth posting but after I came upon yet another cameo of Tomorrow Woman in a comic back issue I was reading it seemed like a good time to do so.

Five Tomorrow Woman con sketches! )

Suggested tags.

James Robinson is usually admired for his work on STARMAN. I appreciated his attempt to improve Rob Liefeld's CAPTAIN AMERICA series. But JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE has resulted in him falling out of favor. Here's one of his 90s works, with art by Adam Hughes.

I had a request in an earlier JLI post I did for a page of Superman and Batman talking after Mr. Miracle's funeral. Naturally, I can't just do the one page, because the whole funeral is so awesome. Six pages of a 22-page comic, plus preview (plus a few non-comic images), not my scans.

So yeah, starts out with big fight with Despero, which J'onn ends...

BTW, this seems as good a post as any to throw this out there. It didn't strike me back in the 80s because I hadn't seen the movie, but now that I've got both the first JLI trade and the Omen series box set, I'm wondering if deMatteis modeled his Max Lord on Sam Neill as the adult Damien Thorn? Check it out:

What say you, s_d? Do we have a match?

I originally planned on posting this as a quick scan of Triplicate Girl's swimsuit, as I love the notion of a costume that splits into three different outfits to match the personalities. However when I dug the issue out, I realised that this was a golden opportunity to showcase how to best utilise your artist... You get Adam Hughes on art, then give him a story where the entire cast of sculpted young Adonises and curvaceous Aphrodites ARE IN SWIMSUITS... and it's not gratuitous, it's a PLOT POINT!

Genius!
