There are some artists who were ahead of their time, or at least the printing process involved in the production of their art. Art Adam's is one of them, as this story from 1986 proves.

This is very much a case in point, you can SEE the colouring and printing process mangling this tale to hell and back, and that's painful.

This story, has, to the best of my knowledge, never been collected or reprinted, which is a shame as it really deserves a modern re-colouring and printing if any does.

Ann Nocenti was the creator and writer on the series which made Art Adams a name to be recognised; "Longshot", the story of a sort of naive, well-meaning alien dealing with the real world and finding the likes of moral ambiguity frustrating. Here we see something quite similar, using another handy naive, well-meaning alien... One of my favourites!

Warlock! And Art Adams Warlock at that! )

I've actually been sort of torn on what to post the past couple of days since the same characters sort of fill multiple slots..

Favourite Male Character, Favourite Friendship, Character I would most want to bring back from the dead all sort of combined... (Look he was dead for so damn long (literal, actual DECADES) that I have a lot of "He's back?!?" inertia to overcome... I'll get there eventually). I should probably try harder to think of something new, and I may well do, but in the meantime, it's back to the old favourites.

Long time, or even relatively new readers of s_d should have no problem identifying who I mean...

The little mutant that could... and his slightly strange buddy! (and I'm STILL not sure which is which)

DC have announced that Ann Nocenti will be taking over the writing duties on Green Arrow as of issue 7.

Ms Nocenti is quite the veteran in the comics industry. She was editor of the Uncanny X-Men and the original New Mutants run, as well as being a co-creator of a few characters you might be familair with; Typhoid Mary during her Dardevil tenure, and Longshot, Mojo and Spiral with Art Adams.

There are a number of contenders here, Jim Gordon and Batman are fascinating as friends, as are Batman and Superman. Then on the more humorous side of things, Asterix and Obelix of course, and the aforementioned Calvin and Hobbes.

But this one is probably my favourite. The kid next door with a facility for languages and the shape-changing technomorphing alien; Cypher and Warlock

They had been team mates for some time, and were buddies, but this is where they truly started to develop a friendship that has withstood both of them dying, TWICE!

Human alien bromance or just good friends? )

The Hero Initiative is a charity whose ongoing mission is, in their own words;

The Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Since inception, the Hero Initiative has been fortunate enough to benefit over 40 creators and their families with over $400,000 worth of much-needed aid, fueled by your contributions! It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.

Marvel recently donated 100 blank-covered copies of Wolverine: Weapon X #1 to the Initiative, and they got some of the best and brightest artists to donate their efforts to produce unique covers which could then be auctioned off.

Some of the covers are in their current auction here and a complete gallery of the covers can be seen here.

And for legality here are a few of the covers themselves.
Some great fun here! )
