With INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #13 showing flashbacks of Tony Stark and James Rhodes friendship, I thought I'd repost the issue that shows when Tony and Rhodey first met.

David Michelinie did an unusual split for IRON MAN #144. The first 6 pages are the conclusion to the first "Iron Man Space Armor" story. The remaining 16 pages are called "Apocalypse Then!" The art is by Joe Brozowski and Bob Layton.

We get a basic recap of Iron Man's origin, and since this issue came out in 1981, we still have Vietnam.

Hi there. Been a while. I've been reading through old Marvel issues and came across this. It's half a page from Iron Man 246, cover date September 1989. (That's postdated by about 6 months, of course.) It's not a full issue review or anything, but I thought it might be of interest.

Tony has recently been shot, paralyzing him from the waist down. He finds the situation intolerable. He spends a while sulking until he realizes that he can modify his armor to move his legs for him based on neural impulses.

(Of course, it never occurs to him that this is a major revolution in medical technology which could benefit thousands, perhaps millions of people and make him a bundle of money in the process. Because, as TV Tropes puts it, Reed Richards is useless.*

*Warning: TV Tropes link. Do not click unless you have several hours to kill and room for a dozen more browser tabs.)

Instead, he throws himself into being Iron Man while, as much as possible, avoiding being Tony Stark. Then he comes up with an idea:

Half a page )

If only there was some way to search every computer connected to the fledgling Internet for certain "key phrases" and return information based on the results! He could learn all sorts of things about his medical condition and what treatments might be available!

He tasks an employee with writing a "virus" to do it, knowing that it's a difficult task, and (in light of data privacy issues) not entirely ethical.

This is early 1989. Altavista was founded in 1995. Google (the search engine now part of just about everything on the Internet, with questionable privacy ethics) was founded in September of 1998. WebMD was founded in 1996. (And Tony's virus doesn't even try to convince you that you have cancer.)

Tony Stark was, characteristically, years ahead of the curve.

But, of course, it didn't occur to him to patent and monetize that idea, either.

Hello Scans Daily! This is my first time actually posting any pages from anything, so with luck I won't screw up and need to do a lot of editing afterwards. I should also warn you that while there are no triggers in this story, I'm gonna recap the pages that I don't post pretty thoroughly, and YMMV on whether that's a good thing or not.

From the dim and distant shores of 1986 comes a tale of corporate vengeance, bad hair, dodgy moral outrage and short-shorts....

It also features an appearance by one of my favourite c-list heroes...

Surely at least one of those mighr engage your interests? :) )

Then it'd be this month's Iron Man: Demon in An Armor, which proposed a reality where Tony Stark and Victor von Doom shared a room.

And got on in the way diametric opposites normally do.. )

The relationship of Spider-man and Daredevil has just undergone a character changing moment (The Death of Jean DeWolff). It was immediately followed by a character defining arc for Daredevil (Born Again). Before, he was the older brother, the one who knew better. He started his career out of vengeance, but continues it for love. He was the preachy one who thought heroes ought to be serious. He believed in JUSTICE--and he knew that sometimes you had to take the long view and make the hard choices to get it.

Now, "crazy" has been added to Daredevil's character attributes. Along with a deeper connection to religion and a specific territory that he considered his. With the highwater mark for the title being essentially "Daredevil's crappy life", Matt Murdock's life would get bad enough that occasionally even Spider-man was impressed at it's depths.

Dunno why Captain Harlock is in it but...

I like how they are playing off the shinny-shinny Bob Layton look of the armour.

There's been too much Valeria/Doom talk. Yeah we know Doom is fixated on her and did some nasty things to her as shown. However, what about the other gal who Doom hearts also, Morgana Le Fay? And yes I ripped off Spidey Loves MJ for naming this entry. It fits the two so fittingly.

DOOM is in the mood to display his love of the ARTS. Here are some pages from Iron Man #249, minus the BOTHERSOME TIME TRAVEL and ARTHURIAN MEDDLING. Such nonsense is best left to fools like RICHARDS. Also: what happens when DOOM shows up at STARK MANOR.
