I don't know if I'd say that Storm is my favorite female character (mostly because I'm not sure I'd say I have "favorites" per se) but she's certainly up there. And since there were requests for Storm scans, I'm going to share some scans of her very earliest appearances, so you can know she was awesome from the very beginning. I'll also be interspersing it with other scans from the same issues that amuse me.

Onward! )

I tracked this down after seeing a page from it on a Black Widow fan's Tumblr, and it did not disappoint. It's packed fat with early Chris Claremont dialogue, but it's a cool done-in-one story just the same.

It's been a long and rather trying week for this little Robin fan as so much has changed... but rather than wallow in what has been lost (I'll still do that, but on my own time) it's time for this old codger to "Accentuate the Positive" again, and reach for the comic equivalent of comfort food... and for me, that's a little classic Alan Davis.... I was going to go for his Detective Comics run, but I think I'll use bits of that for my next Robin posting, so instead, it's off to another reliable source of entertainment; The New Mutants, with added Alan Davis.... (These 16 or so (of 48) pages are scanned form my original, 26 year old copy of this, so there are liable to be some less than CG perfect colouring issues etc)

As my favourite mutant asks...

Why do we do these things we do? )

Another of my "Accentuate the Positive" posts, where I cease whining about current comics, and dig out old ones I enjoyed... I'm not sure, does that make me offically an old fogey?

After the events of New Mutants #60, I didn't buy the comic regularly again, I hadn't much liked Louise Simonson's run, and that was the final straw. I didn't feel like I missed much.

Then a couple of years later, I saw New Mutants #81 on the shelves, a done-in-one story by Chris Claremont and guest penciller Louise Williams. I wonder if it was an inventory story, as it's also mostly a flashback and features neither the regular artist nor writer.

Comic books rarely deal with religion, and perhaps that's just as well, since it's incredibly easy to offend someone be they theist, polytheist or atheist. But it can be done...

It's all about faith )

Firstly please excuse the quality of the scans, the comics themselves are 28 years old and have been much read! :)

So this is another of my "Accentuate the Positive" posts, a glimpse into the past at some story or concept I thought was well presented, to prevent me making another angry post about current comics (Though I'll still post about the good ones of those I find too of course)

[livejournal.com profile] inboots in another community was saying: "there are at least two known universes out there where magneto and rogue are star crossed lovers, one where reed richards has an affair with elektra natchios, but none (that i know of) where charles and erik are buddies and live long happy lives, where is the justice tbh?!!!! "

Which prompted me to say "oh, there is a what if when that's the case, although it's not very good."; and then promise to post it on S_D.

So there you go:

No doubt many of you lack expertise in Carol Danvers' convoluted personal history. And seriously, shame on you. But don't worry, I'm gonna help you out with that.

Carol Danvers received her powers in a bizarre technological accident, as one does. She suffered dire psychological consequences from the trauma and then rapid mutation of her body. (In the space of a few issues she went from human, to augmented, to a human-Kree hybrid. It's a whole thing, don't even). Carol developed dissociative identity disorder, and was unaware of her other other job (she was already a full time badass and magazine editor) as crime fighter. Unfortunately for Carol Danvers the ambitious career woman, Ms. Marvel the superhero and Kree warrior, kept fucking her shit up. Like, you know, killing her best friend. Ms. Marvel kind of sucked, as alters go.

Carol knew something was wrong and went into therapy. That didn't work out so well--no personal revelations, no alter-merging, no dice--though she did get one of her many inappropriate boyfriends out of the experience! Yup, the therapist.

What did work was the judicious application of Occam's Razor, and some sisterly love. Read more... )

By the way, WHILE I'M HERE, you guys should check out and possibly write a post for Women Write About Comics. It's a thing. A thing you want to be a part of.
