I have not posted here in quite a long time....but I think we need more Psylocke up in here. (By the way, she's met the Classic X-Men from the future right?)

Here is part of an odd story from X-Men Annual #11. Also be warned...it's Claremont so expect plenty of wordy dialogue.

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, listening to Rachel and Miles Explain the X-Men has reminded me of how much FUN the old X-Men titles could be, and how densely packed the issues were, plotwise back in that pre-"Stories written for TPB" era.

Case in point was this issue #26, which I genuinely happened to chance upon whilst tidying up my flat.

Zombies... Miracleman killing his former sidekick... Identity Crisis... it's been a fairly harrowing series of postings lately...

And whilst those have, for the most part, been good powerful stories... more or less.... well... less in a couple of cases IMHO, but that's neither here nor there, it's time for another change of pace.

Alan Davis is akin to comfort food for me, his art is sleek and vaguely cartoony in the best sense, and coupled with the right writer (Chris Claremont, Mike W. Barr or himself, amongst others) produces awesome results. I've posted New Mutants Annual #2 in the past, as well as X-Men Annual #10, but this remains a favourite)

Thos who saw my post earlier in the week will recognise the green guy, anyone who knows the New Mutants will know who the other guy is.

The athleticism of Nightwing or Nightcrawler would be fun, though technically neither of those are powers, but skills they work very, very hard to perfect and I'm way too lazy to be able to keep that sort of physique up..

Teleportation would be pretty damned awesone, flight would be nearly as great and telekinesis can be amazingly versatile...

However... there are two powers I'd want to possess, and they reside in the same body...

Doug Ramsey always had, in his old appearance, two distinct super-powers, one was omnilingualism, and the other was that rarest of gifts;

I've actually been sort of torn on what to post the past couple of days since the same characters sort of fill multiple slots..

Favourite Male Character, Favourite Friendship, Character I would most want to bring back from the dead all sort of combined... (Look he was dead for so damn long (literal, actual DECADES) that I have a lot of "He's back?!?" inertia to overcome... I'll get there eventually). I should probably try harder to think of something new, and I may well do, but in the meantime, it's back to the old favourites.

Long time, or even relatively new readers of s_d should have no problem identifying who I mean...

The little mutant that could... and his slightly strange buddy! (and I'm STILL not sure which is which)

The original X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST story from UNCANNY X-MEN #141-142 is very popular. But I think it is popular for a different reason than most lay-people outside X-Men fandom think.
(Also, a Magneto/Quicksilver theory after the cut.)

and until I've managed to assess my feelings on that, I think I'm going to post a little random pretty from my other favourite heroic acrobat, whose #1 issue came out last week.

Many moons ago (Good Lord, has it really been over 3 years???), I posted some pages from "New Mutants Forever", which was Chris Claremont's return to the X-Men's original cadet team.

It was, as I said at the time, a very mixed bag, with too many of Claremont's tired plot tropes (mind control, body horror, enforced (but enjoyable) release from moral boundaries etc) and not enough of the redeeming features he usually employed (cameraderie, loyalty), though there were moments here and there...

I now conclude that post with some pages from issues 4 and 5, and in particular the last pages of the last issue (The earlier pages are basically to support those). Be warned there is some Nazi imagery under the cut, if such things cause you problems you may wish to avoid this.

UNCANNY X-MEN #275. Magneto, Rogue and Nick Fury vs. Zaladane and Savage Land Mutates. Zaladane has a machine that is stealing Magneto's power for her. (Some wonder if this story means Zaladane is Magneto's daughter, as Lorna Dane is Zaladane's sister.)

I feel like some of New Mutants #40 might have been posted before, but I didn't see it in the tags. Maybe it was in sd 1.0.

Anyhow, back when Magneto was running Xavier's school (and everything was made of awesome), Emma Frost manipulated Mags into sending the New Mutants to her Academy. When Magneto realized his mistake, he and Warlock rushed off to Massachusetts to "rescue" them, and Emma called the authorities, who sent The Avengers out to ambush him (he was still on everyone else's shit list at the time).

When the New Mutants got wind of what was going on, Illyana decided to take action.

Be cool, boss, I'll be back in a jiff )
