Daredevil #24

"And I also didn’t want to do the 800th “Oh he has cancer in a superhero book! What will the superhero do? Surely there’s a way to fix it! Oh wait, you can’t beat cancer.” I don’t want to do that kind of story. You know, the story where Daredevil walks around the Marvel Universe for an issue trying to get people to cure cancer for him and being told, “We can go to the Negative Zone, Daredevil, but we can’t cure cancer.” So that’s the first trap you have to avoid when doing that kind of story." -- Mark Waid

"[A]s I got into my 30s and I got into my 40s, I really started to understand a lot more about what I have learned both good and bad from superhero comics as a kid. The upsides -- the obvious upsides: do the right thing, and save cats from trees, and be honest to people, help little old ladies across the street. The darker stuff that you learn... I mean, Jesus, everything emotionally stunted and wrong about me I learned from Mort Weisinger. ... I brought even more personal issues to Daredevil in terms of a lifelong struggle with depression. How you deal with that and don't deal with that, that's something I get a chance to work out with these characters, both Bruce Banner and Matt Murdock." -- Mark Waid

The Spot has seen better days

Two issues ago, Daredevil figured out that the Spot was behind his latest torments, using his teleportation powers to trick Matt into thinking he'd gone insane. (Moving things in and out of rooms, etc.) One issue ago, Daredevil found out that it actually wasn't the Spot but rather some guy named using the Spot as a power source. In the latest issue, things get funky.

A lawyer in Latveria

Previously in DAREDEVIL, Matt Murdock ruined the mega-crime organizations' (AIM, HYDRA, the Secret Empire, etc.) deal to filter their money through Latveria's banks. (It's analogous to how modern merchant ships will fly flags of convenience.) Someone is not happy about that...

Communist Rhapsody

Здравствуйте, comrades! Commissar Chocochuy reporting for duty in the name of the Mother Russia!

Last week I had the chance to read the latest issue of Captain America and Bucky # 624. I highly reccomend it to everybody since it contains a fascinating story set during the years in which Bucky was the Winter Soldier as well as many romantic moments. Now I proudly present you some selected scenes (4 pages only since this is a recent issue) of the adventures of our two favorite ex-communist heroes. Enjoy, comrades!

A few days ago I posted from issue #622, which was an Invaders-heavy issue. Today I will post from the latest issue, which is much darker.

Captain America & Bucky #622

So for my $2.99 this is just about the best thing Marvel has going. I thought I'd post some scenes from last month's issue— #623 came out this week, but I am still putting my thoughts together about that.

Anyway, this the book that they turned Captain America into when they killed him off in Fear Itself. Basically, it charts the coming of age of Bucky Barnes in self contained single issue installments. Ed Brubaker and Marc Andreyko on words, Chris Samnee on pencils, Bettie Breitweiser on colors, Namor McKenzie on burn.
