This is one of my favourite scenes in Gail Simone's run of Red Sonja, it never fails to put a smile on my face :)

Part of it, I think, is that the main reason it's so hard for me to get into the character is that she doesn't have a strong recurring cast. I do like Sonja, but I've always much preferred reading about teams or at least duos than about lone heroes.

Simone's second storyarch temporarily provides Sonja with very likeable teammates, the seven of them working as a team (well, six of them working as a team while Rakaua looks funny and beautiful, but I'm sure not complaining ♥), and as such I've enjoyed it much better than pretty much any other Sonja story I've seen.

There is no part of this I don't love. )

This is my second Red Sonja post, and I was thinking of making a third one. However, both scenes I'd like to show you take place in the same issue, and because of the page limit I can only post one of them.

So, I'll let you guys decide. One is a funny scene featuring this run's recurring joke that Sonja wants to get laid but gets constantly thwarted (the very expressive art is particularly great for this, Sonja's facial expressions are hilarious). The other is a serious scene about animal abuse, which Sonja STRONGLY objects to. Which one should I post?

Btw, the art is by Walter Geovani. I couldn't find his name in the tags.

Put this one in the "What might have been" column -

Gail Simone on Twitter this week mentioned that there had been a plan a few years ago for DC to publish outsize comic books with multiple stories from multiple creators.

One would have been Superman, another would have been a superteam (she doesn't mention which one) and the one she would have been involved with is one that would have had Grant Morrison, Mark Waid and herself on the three members of the Marvel Family, with the main title rotating.

This would have been A) Awesome and B) in line with the old Captain Marvel comics whereby there were distinct stories and creators the individual members each with a distinct art style; CC Beck on Captain Marvel, Mac Raboy on Captain Marvel Jr and Marc Swayze on Mary Marvel.

As someone who has not managed to learn to love the current Shazam, this is a rather poignant loss.

So to start the new week, let's turn this into a discussion; your dream creative team for a main, or lesser known, character?

Vertigo is to me what Image Comic seems to be others. While everyone gets excited over whatever Image puts out, Vertigo does that for me. It's produced some my favorite comics of all time (Fables, iZombie, Scalped, Saucer Country, and The Unwritten), but it has been falling on hard times recently. This imprint barely had any new titles at all!

...that is, until just recently...

"My theory is this. Convergence, Secret Wars, and Swords of Sorrow are all the same event, taking place concurrently. They all involve realities smashing together. It's three companies telling a mega-story. That is my theory. It's impossible for these three events to not be connected. It's one huge story and we're each telling a facet." - Gail Simone

And if anyone is interested, I'm currently running the Annotated DC blog, where I go over the references and homages to various DC works across different types of media. I know that some folks here follow it, so I thought that I'd post a link in case anyone else is curious. :)

Well, that won't do. Have two pages under here.

Long story short: Batgirl is going to war full-out against Knightfall. Naturally, she calls in the Canary for a war council.

And then this happens. )
