Ever have one of those days where you just need a good cry? Want to read something that just cuts deep, but leaves you feeling refreshed for having felt something so strongly afterwards?

I didn't think it was possible for this book to get anymore problematic, but I stand corrected.

WARNING: for graphic eroticised violence.

Issues #3 and #4 of Batwing take some time off the present-day Massacre plot and to show David Zavimbe's years as a child soldier.

Better than the other children )

In this issue, we have:

1. Selina going back to making cat references.
2. Preferring to deal with the pains of childbirth over dislocating her shoulder.
3. Catwoman sucking hard at the 'being a criminal' lifestyle.
4. Aeka interpreting all of this as foreshadowing a future encounter with Selina Jr.

4 Pages worth of easter eggs that make Aeka smile :} )

We learn a little bit more about Selina's past and are introduced to more people in her life. At best it appears as though the Frank Miller prostitute origin has been retconned out of continuity. So I guess one point for Winick?

4 pages out of 21, plus interview with Judd Winick and Guillem March )

No violent anonymous shagging this time...(well maybe a bit of snogging), but there's still a WHOLE lot of violence, and I mean LOTS of it.

It's enough to say even Batman doesn't approve )

Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; also, Birds of Prey was okay except for Starling. How much of a Mary Sue are you, girl?
daggerpen: I <3 this pairing so much, and yes, I know, there's, like, no canonocial basis. I don't care. (Connor/Jason)

So, the reboot is looking pretty bad for the Arrow kids. There's no indication we'll have Mia anytime soon, Connor apparently "ages Ollie up" too much- nevermind that Bruce totally had time for four Robins and a ten-year-old kid and that Connor was born well before Ollie became Green Arrow- and, of course, Lian, who should also have been born before her father's current identity change, also apparently ages Roy up too much. Suffice to say, current plans don't hold much hope for these three.

Of course, plans can be changed.

TL;DR? Let's all spam DC. )

JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #20 came out in February, and covered Max Lord's motivations. How he went from "manipulative but decent" to "shoot Ted Kord in the head."
A teenaged Max comes home and finds his father dead from an apparent suicide. Max's mother has a different opinion.

"...good people are going to get hurt."

Power and... uh, more power )

I tried to hold this off, but I can't do it any longer. The statements made by many of the DC creative teams at SDCC have been misguided at best and downright OFFENSIVE at worst.

I know a lot of this has already been posted, but I figured putting it in a concise post is best. My commentary is in "Quotes" while DC's statements are in bold.

From Comic Alliance, I'm getting info about what their saying and it's pretty nasty. Oh, and believe me, it just gets worse from here!

But first: legality!

Since it was announced by absence that Power Girl would be absent from the first 52 DC books in the 90s relaunch, I've been thinking a lot about how she could be included in the reboot. I'm at least glad that she isn't going to be in the new JLA, as I've already got Ms. Marvel as a character who's gone from having her own quite good solo series to having to live on little cameos in the premier team book.

To that end, I've had a flick back through some of the Palmiotti/Gray/Conner series and re-read the first issue of the Winnick/Basri run. Power Girl is quite fortunate to have had two sets of creators present a consistent run on the book, doing the story that they want to tell and then leaving when they want. Compare that to the directionless creative mishmash that Supergirl's gone through since her title debuted and you could probably say that she's had one of her best runs.

Here's three pages of her revised origin from Power Girl #13
The origin )
I've also been scouring Project Rooftop and Deviantart for other versions of Power Girl. As far as I can manage, I'm going to credit the original artist for everything.

I've also got some pictures that would make this post need a nudity advisory. If there's a demand for these, I'll post them at some point in the morning.

It's a farewell issue from Judd Winick on Power Girl as he wraps up his run. On the whole, I've really enjoyed it and Basri's art has been a revelation. 'Tis a pity that the immediate future for Power Girl, post reboot is bleak.
Until next time )

Shades of the end of Ms. Marvel there. Or even the beginning
