"One of the hooks of ‘Hunter-Killer’ was always the notion that what we read in the newspapers and what we see reported to us is always just the tip of the iceberg, there’s always machinations on a global scale behind it that we don’t know. And if you’re not convinced there’s global machinations going on right now, with the economic crisis that’s happening, then you’ve got your head in the sand. I don’t mean to sound like I should be wearing a tin foil hat, I just mean it’s easy to be paranoid in this day and age given how out of control we seem to be of our own destiny."

"Hunter-Killer is grounded in the growing outrage we as a nation have against an increasingly corrupt administration, balanced against the idea that there really are people in charge 'up there' who do have a sense of morality and do want to do what's right. To that end, we're revealing the existence of a fourth, secret branch of the U.S. Government that's been in existence since colonial times: the 'Failsafe Branch,' charged with the responsibility of keeping our government in line. The old trope about 'black ops' stories is that 'there are some jobs too dirty for the government.' Yeah, well, anyone who's read a newspaper in the past few years is probably with me when I say, 'Really?' The Failsafe crew is out to change that image and make America the good guys again--even if they have to do it in secret."

I can't say I have an all from favourite writer be it in the comic medium or otherwise, but Larry Hama is certainly one of the ones who influenced me most from my childhood up till today, he's done so many great books, most famously GI Joe, though I believe his own favourite is Nth Man, and his Wolverine run is considered one of the best.

Larry Hama got his start in the comics industry as penciler, and he's done practically every other job the in the industry (he's also been an actor and is working on a crowd funded cyberpunk movie), but he moved to writing mostly because it had better pay per page, and he could produce more pages, per hour. He's very well known for his writing style; Hama always says he doesn't know what's going to happen on one page until he's finished the previous one... When people were speculating about that eye a while back, he went on record saying he wouldn't know what it was till he got there (I am not sure if he has got there yet, I'm a bit behind on my pull list).

Today for you we have: Star Wars, Bucky O'Hare, Wolverine, and a little, but not too much, GI Joe, as well as some excerpts from a very cool vampire E-Book that you should totally buy if you like vampires or urban fantasy at all. Read more... )

Top Cow and Marvel put out the first ish of their Star Trek/X-Men crossover, and I bring you one page simply because everything on it made me giggle.

Full context is not altogether clear at this point; all y'all need to know is, a very 1990s X-Team has teleported onboard the Enterprise 1701-A to deal with a threat involving Proteus and the Shi'Ar on the X-side and Gary Mitchell (of TOS s1 ep "Where No Man Has Gone Before") on the Trek side.

After a bumpy X-port into the Enterprise's cargo bay, the two crews have to start meeting at some point, of course...

There is actually quite an appropriate explanation for this, sir! )

I don't know if I'll stick with this title, but it's hitting my fangirl sweet spots a lot better than that Trek/Legion crossover did.

A VS. X makes it clear Cyclops is acting like a total jerk. And I wish it was Out Of Character for him, that some desperate hope Jean will come back is overriding his better judgement. Except it isn't. Cyclops being a jerk is standing operating procedure pretty much since DECIMATION started, if not before.

For [personal profile] protogarrett who requested some old-school Jubilee.

One full page from "Uncanny X-Men #244, four scans from "X-Men" v.1 #4, #7 and #9 (about half a page from each), and two full pages from "Uncanny X-Men" #297. All are 22-page comics.

Paf! )

Wow, I'm quite a Paul Pelletier fan, but this Hulk looks pretty awesome!

Cosmic Book News has the images up from the Fear Itself Panel, with a bunch of Silvestri's Hulk.

I'm onboard for this.

A couple below, more found at CBN.
