UNCANNY X-MEN #299 is an X-Men issue that, surprisingly, doesn't have a lot of action. It is mostly set up that Magneto is still alive and Professor Xavier debating Senator Robert Kelly on Nightline (but with a guest-host instead of Ted Koppell). But I consider two pages from the issue very inspiring.

Apparently the phrase 'Dark Trinity' is less confrontational and more contemplative, as in 'three people making a life beyond the shadow of their betters'. Better save that "Trinity fights Dark Trinity" plot at run's end, creative team.

Plus, what's Jason's reaction to Tim's death? Check it!

In 2012, AXE released Anarchy - the brand's first male/female paired fragrance. We knew that as soon as both genders had the AXE effect, chaos was inevitable. The only challenge was bringing this anarchy to life online for a demographic that's increasingly hard to engage. Our solution was to do more than just involve consumers - we decided to create the campaign with them. To do this, we embraced a genre that has fueled fantasies for decades and then reinvented it for a generation raised on the real-time web. Anarchy: The Graphic Novel was written by - and starring - its readers. - Press Release from Razorteeth

Oh boy, have I uncovered something special today folks.

This was released to the public for free back in 2012 for all to read, enjoy, and download in PDF form. The site that hosted it no longer exists today though. So, it's lost to time except for what little I actually have.

The Rebirth issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws features Jason Todd to the exclusion of the other two new members of the team; Bizarro and Artemis (The Amazon 90's replacement for Diana as Wonder Woman one) to create the "Slightly warped Trinity" team.

Though I suppose it was inevitable )

UNCANNY X-MEN #321 is part of LEGIONQUEST, the lead-up to AGE OF APOCALYPSE. David "Legion" Haller goes back in time to kill Magneto and drags some of the X-Men along with him. They end up "20 years ago," when Charles Xavier and Erik Magnus Lensherr were friends in Israel.

Trigger warning for some ablest language that Charles Xavier doesn't like.

Also, fanfiction! No, not that kind of fanfiction! )

At least for a little while...

As I ponder the UK's bewildering referendum decision to leave the European Union I may need to retreat into silliness (it helps deaden the disappintment and pain).

Weirdly enough, my first foray into that is going to be via Jason Todd, in a classic romance comic situation.... kinda....

The first part of that formula was establishing the status quo in the protagonists' city.

Convergence: Blue Beetle's bit of that was decently done.

It opened on a standoff.

On one side, some Madmen; on the other, some men. )

I'm pretty sure nobody is that interested in what happens with Duela after that other post. Red Hood/Arsenal crashed what could have been an interesting arc into the ground and left something boring behind.

BUT

I'm also pretty sure that nobody could have guessed just HOW bad the 'payoff' would be. And since I don't want anyone's rose tinted glasses to go unshattered...

A Legion of Superheroes descended from the latter to the former.

They were met by the Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, and the Question.

They figured it'd be a quick win.

They were wrong.

The Beetle's gadgets and Captain Atom's abilities gave them more of a fight than they expected.

As for the Question?

He likewise proved a surprising frustration. )

"Now, are the first six issues about Roy trying to convince Jason it is time to go "legit?" To print up some business cards and start using their special set of skills to help people instead of necessarily killing the bad guys unfortunate enough to cross their paths? Does every new story work as a building block to the next? Absolutely. Guilty!

But month-to-month, for the readers that like to be surprised by the adventure and the tone and the focus from issue to issue... Red Hood/Arsenal is our book!

"In a way, Jason and Roy are the best thing that ever happened to one another — even if they can't always admit it to each other.

Before they met, Jason was a violent, angry vigilante with only revenge on his mind. Roy was a directionless action junkie who took ridiculous self-destructive risks. When they finally wound up in each others orbit something pretty spectacular happened to both guys.
