My Convention Collation - London 2013
Feb. 24th, 2013 11:30 pmThis year I attended the second London Super Comic Convention, and had a LOT of fun.
There were some great panels (Though I only attended the "Batman through the Ages" one, which had Brian Bolland, Gary Frank, David Finch and Neal Adams on the panel (and included the unforgettable moment of Neal Adams testing the microphone by singing "Over at the Frankenstein Place" to the room, and did it well too!) and some absolutely terrific cosplayers (The Rule 63 Deadshot was excellent, the Jack of Hearts was spectacular, the G'nort was... unforgettable, and the two little lads of colour (One was black, the other was, I think, Indian), who can't have been more than five or six, as Young Justice Nightwing and Captain America and who were wandering around hand in hand (Their dad's were with them I hasten to add), were among the most preciously adorable things I've seen in a long time (and I mean that in an absolutely wholesome sense)
( But you know me... Artists here I come! )

In a recent post from
espanolbot , mention is made of Dick having his own supervillains.

Now Crazy Quilt we've met in the past, but there is another name up there, who also had a criminal career versus the Boy Wonder back in the Golden Age.
( Before the Clock King there was... The Clock )

Resistance will be DELETED
Mar. 25th, 2012 02:02 pmSaw this cover for Doctor Who/Star Trek #2 in JK Woodward's portfolio at the London Super Comic Con and have been waiting for it to surface online so I could post it.
( That industrial steel finish is SO 21st Century... )
( and while we're sort of on that subject, my JK Woodward commission! )

...according to current DC lore, it's the birthday of Dick Grayson! ("Robin" being his mothers pet name for him, since he arrived on the first day of Spring.... That makes more sense when you're American, as your robins are associated with Spring, whereas in Europe they're associated with Christmas and winter.
But first, a word from ourstalker... SPONSOR

So with that recommendation... here is a summation of Dick's pre-Crisis origin as shown in the first attempt to summarise a complete history of Batman and his cast - "The Untold Legend of the Batman" from 1980, in this case issue 2 (Five pages from a 21 page story)
( Jim Aparo beneath... and that's a GOOD thing )
( Some other fols take on m'boy... )
( And some fun fanart from DA... )

I hate to use the term "Art Haul", so let's call this my "Convention Compilation"
Feb. 27th, 2012 06:51 pmThe London Super Comics Convention was the first comic convention I've attended in many, many years, and aside from the Stan Lee panel appearance (Where he proved he can still work a room like few others, even if the less than ideal acoustics meant that every question had to be repeated to him by the chap sitting next to him) Artists Alley was the place I'd be found.

Here's some MC2 fun of a couple that never quite came together.

Dudes in Distress Week - Oh come on, you MUST have known I'd be doing something like this (Pt1)
Feb. 5th, 2012 12:45 pmAs the sun sets (or rises depending on time difference) on scans_daily's "Dude in Distress Week" (and thank you to the mods for it and to everyone who contributed such great issues), I thought I'd make a couple of posts featuring my favourites... First post will be some commissions, the second post will be some classic moments from the past, and the third will be my nomination for perfect "Dude in Distress" issue. And yes, I should probably apologise in advance for the sheer Robin-centricity of them, but frankly you should know me better by now! :D If cute guys in pixie boots aren't you're thing, please feel free to skip them all.

Fight scenes SHOULD be more fun with superpowers...

And now...

Now that I've finally gotten all my items back from the last NYCC (I had one of my sketchbooks being worked on at the artist's home after the con) I can post my complete haul plus one I received unrelated to the con.

It has been noted that since Cypher's return, certain artists have drawn our favourite little mutant linguist as looking a little emaciated, approaching the cadaverous at times.
This is partly to rectify this, and partly to remind us that there are nice people in the world.
( Looking GOOD there Dougie boy! )
And for legality, I'm indebted to alphaflightcollector's blogspot for a delightfully naughty little reveal about Mr Douglas "Potty Mouth" Ramsey...
( When he says he speaks EVERY language, that does include 'bad' I suppose )

Give DC their due, they are seeking alternative sites to promote the "New 52".
Six pages from Superboy #3 can be found here

( First up, some Dustin Nguyen... )
A couple of desperately cute pics from DeviantArt-ist TwinEngima
( Batmen and Robins', but not the ones you think )
The burning question - Arkham City Nightwing - Fingerstripes or not?
( The answer is in )
And a couple more items from Al Bigley which I just got in... First an addition to my "Cypher and Warlock" collection.
"Right Warlock, I can see a mugging down the road, none of the other New Mutants are around, so I need you to make me look like a proper street fighting superhero, someone badass, someone who can hold their own in a fight... I need to be... a caped crusader!"
( Self is happy to comply for selfsoulfriendcypherdoug! )
Well, I don't know about you, but I feel better after that!

After reading on s_d for some time, and not without nodding agreement on a regular basis, about the objectification of women in terms of super-costume designs... I'd pondered what the reverse would be like....

Teen Titans #100- Indigo
Aug. 25th, 2011 01:20 amAnd a slight follow up to my last post regarding Indigo/Brainiac 8 in this final Teen Titans run before that pesky rebootlaunch.
half a page worth of material here bringing us I believe to 3.5 total posted pages from the issue.

Comic Crossovers are certainly not a new thing they've been done for at least a good three decades or more.
Heck we're seeing Classic Star Trek and the Legion of Superheroes soon enough.
But one day I specifically thought about Marvel and DC crossovers and that when they occur it's always the mainstream versions of the comics (or some close variation) that crossover like in JLA/Avengers.
So I then had a thought about a fun idea for a crossover that'd likely never happen...
( What Marvel and DC character shall meet (or not)? )

To start the weekend, it's commission time again!
You know what's more fun than having a favourite character?
Having two favourite characters!
And what's better than that?
Having them interact when there's no mainstream way they could, would or should...
And what's EVEN BETTER than that?
Having an artist who "get's" your requests... and improves on them!
( My newest Mitch Ballard commission )
