“Lemire’s script is heavily reminiscent of Brian K. Vaughan’s Runaways (arguably one of the best teen superhero comics ever)... Lemire lays impressive groundwork for a larger narrative that gives the team a stronger sense of direction than they’ve had in years. And he does so by turning to themes that any teenage reader will recognize.”—A.V. CLUB/THE ONION

"The fun for me is seeing these characters, who are very grounded and very realistic kids, and then have these insane things starting to happen, and then having them be able to react to it the way maybe a normal teenager would, as opposed to a teenager who's grown up in 50 years of superheroes flying around them." - Jeff Lemire

Luciano Vecchio is an Argentian artist I follow on DeviantArt and Tumblr. Amongst other work, he's been the artist on some of the "Easy Reader" DCAU books which are very cute and my nieces have enjoyed.

Quoting from his entry on DA for these pages (which he kindly agreed to share)

Last week I read the anthology Love Is Love, published by DC Comics and IDW, an homage to the victims and survivors of the Orlando shooting.

I didn’t dare asking to participate when Marc Andreyko made an open call for creators. But after reading it, and seeing the DC characters there (which I didn’t expect), I kept thinking what would I have done, and I was inspired to do this short story. Couldn’t help myself actually.

It falls utterly and unashamedly under the category of fan fiction. My first ever.

So with that preamble in mind... )

So Robin is 75 years old this year, having debuted in Detective Comics #38, dated April 1940

That means it would have been on the shelves in Feb/March. According to current continuity, Dick's birthday is "the first day of Spring", which would be 20th March, but he's had a few other dates cited as his DOB over the years, so this seems close enough... ish.

So let's celebrate!

And how better than with a costume party?! )

Jeff Lemire plus Terry and Rachel Dodson revealed a cave painting foreshadowing the future of the Earth One graphic novels, but I need help naming two Titans in it. Has anyone read this?

You know, I was thinking after my last post on this topic that I had sort of cheated.

Now don't get me wrong, Cypher's powers would be fascinating, and useful, and generally awesome in a quiet sort of a way, but it, like all the powers I was thinking of, were those that would be USEFUL to me in my life - Teleportation would save on travel costs, Telekinesis would just be so functionally useful I don't even know where to start... Another power I had pondered was the ability to split into multiple selves like Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel/Triad/Duplicate Damsel (Good lord, she has more names than selves!). which would also have many uses.. though if I had two jobs I might run into tax issues... but that's overthinking things a bit.

No, I realised that I also had a power I wanted to have for FUN.... flight would be at the top of that list if I didn't have it included in the power I was thinking of... What power is that, well here's a clue (if you have't already read the tags)

It's not easy being green, but it CAN be fun )

Time now for the latest issue of Teen Titans. You'll recall that the team 'ported back to the 21st century to find Bunker and Beast Boy fighting for their lives on Tim's yacht, which is apparently the worst-guarded secret headquarters ever.

It's kind of a long story. )
...so, all that happened. *shrug* Reboot, anyone?

Hi ho, gang! Yes, i'm still alive. I got ill in February and was either in hospital or recovering and not allowed to drive til recently, and so missed the last couple issues of Teen Titans. But! Now I have both the ones I missed and the latest in hand! So I figure i'll do one post on the back issues and a separate post for the new. I have here six pages each from Teen Titans #28 and #29 - sounds like a lot, but there's at least one double-page splash from each ish.

You'll recall that when we left our merry band, the remaining Titans had joined Kid Flash and Solstice in the 31st century, where Bart was apprehended and put on trial. Being in the future enabled Bart to break through his Echo-created "witness protection" personality and become the evil revolutionary Bar Torr again, and submitting to the trial was part of his scheme - with all his world's power brokers gathered to watch him hang, his forces were able to strike at all of them at once, to the Titans' dismay.

We now join the battle already in progress )

Stay tuned, gentle readers! Same Titan time, same Titan channel!

You'll recall that during the whole Forever Evil megillah, the Titans got stuck bouncing at random through a whole mess of fractured timelines and Raven was called upon to stitch them together and reunite the group. Doing so landed them in the future in TT #25 where Kid Flash and Solstice watched pre-KF Bar Tor commit his heinous crimes.

In TT #26 Kid Flash recovered his memories and explained it all to the Titans - his parents' deaths at the hands of the Functionary for continuing to worship God, Bar's escape with his little sister, leaving her in an orphanage while he went off to start the Revolution, his turning himself in to Echo when he realized their big strike had killed his sister - and the Titans were horrified.

Now, the Functionary has put Bart in the dock for the Trial of the Century.

Remember Teen Titans: Year One, the mini written by Amy Wolfram and with amazing art by Karl Kerschl? Back when DC acknowledged there had been a Teen Titans that included Dick Grayson, Donna Troy, Roy Harper, Wally West and Garth of Atlantis?

Over on his Tumblr, Karl Kerschl has just unveiled a set of "lost pages" from the series, which were supposed to run as a two page episodic story in each issue as a future member of the team tries to track down these new Teen Titans, but never quite manages it in time for their paths to intersect.

It's not easy being... well, you can guess the next part... )
