Now, I think I've been very restrained for the most part of late, with a distinct lack of chronically imperilled acrobatic heroes, more or less.

Time to sort of remedy that with some scans from a book I found yesterday which was an impulse purchase and not a bad one at that, It's a hardback book called "The World According to the Joker" (There's also one called "The World According to Batman" which I didn't pick up)

It's a glimpse into the Jokers head-space as part of a series of psychological examinations by Dr Arkham

It goes as well as you might expect )

It's been a while since my Fanart posts included commissions of my own, and I got a couple in, which celebrate my particular favourites!

So most of you will have some idea what to expect going in...

My favourite young men (one formerly of the flying trapeze )

Back in the day, I did a "Killer Moth day" for a friend of mine on tumblr. In the process, I stumbled across this panel:

Killer Moth gets creative

I have no idea if it was already posted, or if there's a specific date for posting these things. If so, I apologize, and promise that I'll provide some never-before-seen (on scans_daily) dudes in distress images later.

(Also, is there a specific tag I should use for this theme?)

To icon_uk, from his biggest fan...

Max Allan Collins' brief run on Batman from back in the day isn't really well-remembered. At most, a few Jason fans and writers draw from it as the primary source for Jason's post-Crisis origin, but that's about it.

And yet, said run contained some glorious, glorious scenes. Like this one.

Joker being tied up.

Just ignore the context, and pretend that one of the Robins (probably Dick) is paying the Joker back for all those years of being bound and gagged...

And finally for Dudes in Distress Week... honest! Then I'll be quiet!

As noted earlier, this is a repost of a post originally made in 2009 in our IJ days, but I thought that in honours of Dude in Distress week a fresh posting might be made as an exception.

So what did I pick? Go on... guess!

What else could it be, but New Teen Titans #22 )

As promised, this is the second mega-posting to celebrate the end of "Dude(s) in Distress Week", dealing with published images... (This is sort of a "Greatest Hits", as much of it has been posted before)

The history of the "Dude in Distress" in graphical literature is a long and noble one... there are probably medieval woodcuts showing that sort of thing, but as that slightly predates most of the usual area of scans_daily, we'll skip to something vaguely more recent... well, relatively speaking.

LOTS of scans under the cut, but I've used smallish thumbnails so as not to kill your broadband completely! Just stun it slightly...

As the sun sets (or rises depending on time difference) on scans_daily's "Dude in Distress Week" (and thank you to the mods for it and to everyone who contributed such great issues), I thought I'd make a couple of posts featuring my favourites... First post will be some commissions, the second post will be some classic moments from the past, and the third will be my nomination for perfect "Dude in Distress" issue. And yes, I should probably apologise in advance for the sheer Robin-centricity of them, but frankly you should know me better by now! :D If cute guys in pixie boots aren't you're thing, please feel free to skip them all.

Like comics... but not! )

Well, as my introductory post for DiD Week (Which I don't think we have room left for a tag for I'm afraid), I thought I'd NOT start with the obvious choice, but an example that highlights just about everything I'm looking for in such a scene.

So rather than Batman's chum, I'm opting for Superman's Pal, and from 1995 we find Superman investigating....

So far this weekend, I've made a post which looked at the public reaction to superheroes in the MU which has had some fascinating discussions arising out of it, and a post from Micronauts in which m'learned friend [personal profile] whitesycamoreraised some intriguing points of the treatment of those perceived as "other" in fiction.

This time though, I'm not going for the deep or the meaningful, I'm going straight to cute guys tied up...

Now I don't know how many of you have siblings, I have more than one myself, and I love them all, but one of the things about siblings is that we argue... A LOT... usually over unimportant stuff that we forget about by the next day but we argue, we squabble, we "debate heatedly". It's sometimes fun, often cathartic, and, on mercifully rare occasions (in my experience), destructive.

So one of the things that always irked me a little about the Hardy Boys was that they NEVER seemed to argue. They were always in agreement, always on the same page. Even when steps were taken to differentiate between the personalities of the brothers (Joe being impulsive and intuitive, Frank analytical and logical) they were always in perfect sync with each other that it sort of set my teeth on edge.

Gerry Conway took over writing the Hardy Boys graphic novels from Scott Lobdell as of the last issue, and one of the first things he did was change that...

Sometimes all it takes is a poik in the wrong place....

I had a pretty interesting couple of weeks. I visited New York City. I met [personal profile] queenanthai in real life. A whole bunch of other, more personal stuff happened. Personal stuff that I would rather not dwell on anymore. So, in the spirit of escaping from problems that defy easy, superhero-style solutions, I decided to post something I have been meaning to post for a while, but real life kept getting in the way.

Captain Aero Comics - Miss Victory - Header

[personal profile] s0mnambulance's post about questionable 80s comics inspired me to look back at Miss Victory's original, Golden Age stories. And I discovered that even back in those early years, Miss Victory stories had some rather questionable subtext.

The following story originally appeared in Captain Aero Comics #9. Art by Charles Quinlan, writer unknown.

A case of mistaken identity takes a turn for disturbing (6 pages under the cut) )
