Old Man Logan

"You know, I’ve always loved the Old Man Logan story. That’s a beauty. Maybe in 20 years time I’ll just pop up and do that one." - Hugh Jackman, 2014

As you may or may not have heard, the upcoming 'Logan' film is loosely inspired by the storyline 'Old Man Logan', a comic that Hugh Jackman had been hoping to adapt for years. Everything indicates that the similarities will likely be thematic for obvious reasons (99% of the major characters couldn't appear in a Fox film) but if you wanted to see the launching pad for the film here it is.

Warning: This is pretty gory.

Jenifer

I posted this only a few months ago but in light of today's news with Berni Wrightson's health issues causing him to retire I figured I would share it again. 'Jenifer' is arguably one of Wrightson's most infamous horror works. It first appeared in Creepy #63. For those interested this was made into an episode of 'Masters of Horror' directed by Dario Argento. If I have the time and resources I may try to post further Wrightson comics in the future.

Warning for gore as well as a rape scene.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: About a Boy

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning did a few 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' comics for Wildstorm (I posted one last year for Halloween). As a fan of the franchise, it's my opinion that they 'got' the series and Leatherface to the point that it genuinely makes me sad that they couldn't have been on board for any of the recent films.

'About a Boy' was a one-shot focusing on Leatherface as a teenager. I remember being disappointed how the 2005 prequel completely skipped over Leatherface's early years. Abnett and Lanning's comic is exactly what should have been in the film.

Warning for gore and violence.

'Copycat'

Here's another Freddy Krueger story from Wildstorm's 'Nightmare on Elm Street' comics (published under "New Line's Tales of Horror #1").  In my opinion it absolutely nails Freddy as a  character.

Warning for the usual violence and gore.

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors

"This is the DC
Crisis of horror. This is the movie they could never afford to make." - Jason Craig

"With remakes of Friday and now Nightmare, we are in many ways the stewards of the classic continuity and it's a responsibility we don't take lightly." - Jeff Katz

This is the follow-up to 'Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash'. On one hand, I appreciate that this comes from a place of genuine love for the original films. On the other, it's a bit of a mess. The level of fanservice here is off the charts that even J.J. Abrams would probably go "Whoa, settle down." Unless you've seen every single film from both Freddy and Jason you're probably going to be lost at one point or another.

Warning for the usual stuff; gore, violence, etc.

Jenifer

Here's a short story from Creepy #63. For those interested this was made into an episode of 'Masters of Horror' directed by Dario Argento.

Warning: There's some gory stuff here as well as what I think is an implied rape scene.
