Theme weeks

We love 'em, but we've neglected them recently. And that's a crying shame!

On the last requests post we had a decent thread going re: suggestions of which themes people would like to see being featured and even prior to that the mod comm's been talking about bringing these back. See any you like?

One Perfect Moment week
Angst week
Retcon week
Ape week
Robot week
Body-swap week
Time travel week
Dude in distress week
This is Why week
where posters explain exactly what it is about a certain character, title, artist that they like, dislike etc.
My First... theme would be a good way for posters to reminisce about their first comics reading experience. or the first issue of their favourite title, and could bring some new faces and books into the mix
Porn Week (a perennial, to the point that I'd suggest we concentrate on previously un-featured creators)

We've had some of these before (as well as others not listed; check through the tags), but some are brand new. Is there anything else you'd like to see as a week-long all-comers postfest?

Lurkers? Speak up! New members? Post!

Think about what you love, or what you've been meaning to share. Would that fit with any of these themes? Does it suggest a new theme to you?

In comments: VOTE. TALK. SUGGEST.

Let's hear it, Dailians.

As this year's One Perfect Moment Week comes to a close, we'd like to thank everyone who participated. A week doesn't seem very long, does it?

We're handing over to our members now. Got an idea for an upcoming theme week? Why not suggest it? Want to run your own? Go for it! The mods will happily support any suggestions (within reason)! There's always room for a rotating custom banner heading the community or for complete spontaneity.

Again, many thanks to all those who posted their Perfect Moments and shared their love with the community. It was great to see!

Greetings True Believers! This is my last post for OPM week and it's one of my favorites, for two reasons.

1. This issue of "Spider-Man's Tangled Web" features one of the best parts of any comic-verse. The villain bar. I love scenes of villains just hanging out, grousing about heroes, comparing notes and relaxing. Which is why I included a few scans of just that.

2. This story is an example of the fact that Norman Osborn doesn't need a costume, glider or control of an international martial agency to be one of the scariest motherfuckers on the planet.

Enjoy!

Okay, I was wrong THIS will be my last post for One Perfect Moment week.

Following on from recent discussions about the Riddler and how hard he is to write well, a rather appropriate couple of pages from Batman Adventures #10, as an inmate is released from Gotham State Penitentiary...

We should all have henchmen then loyal... )

Since [personal profile] icon_uk made a post about the ultimate sidekick, Obelix, I figured I'd post a Perfect Moment from one of the other great Franco-Belgian sidekicks, Fantasio.

I've long had a soft spot for the manga (plus anime and toyline) Saint Seiya... The armour designs were nifty and the mythological references were great fun.

And today's lesson is that gentle /= weak )

I note, with a little embarrassment, that my OPM posts have been entirely US comic based (even if one was an English writer writing about a Scottish Mutant on a British superteam), so before things come to a close, one Continental moment, and if I can manage it later, a Japanese one.

2 pages out of 40 from Asterix the Legionary, one of my favourite Asterix books.

Obelix runs the emotional gamut in record time.. )

Look, it's "One Perfect Moment" week, it's me... you KNOW I had to do one of these, right?

You're a new villain, you want to make a splash, make a name for yourself. For that you need Batman as your nemesis, and how do you go about getting him to even notice you, after all, it's not like Gotham isn't awash with bad guys already...

You could send flowers, or chocolates, or write him a letter or... )

And at no extra charge, ANOTHER One Perfect Moment from only two pages later in the same issue

How to introduce a new bad guy with STYLE! )

First up, some context. Bastion has captured Jubilee and is trying to stripmine her mind for information regarding the X-men. One approach is to reveal to her that he's killed Cyclops and he shows her his battered and damaged visor as proof. He later returns to try and play further mind tricks on her to pry information from her. It doesn't go according to plan.

From Generation X #27, by Scott Lobdell and Chris Bachalo.

Long time lurker and commenter, first time poster.. fingers crossed that I did this right..

As another post said, picking one perfect moment from an Atomic Robo comic is insanely difficult given how many there are. Given that Robo was taken already, and someone already recently posted the scan I would have used for Jenkins I give you, Dr. Dinosaur, a character only marginally easier to pick them out from due to the fact he's only shown up twice, plus a second moment I included just for how funny I found it.

Both pages are from Volume 4, issue 3 of Atomic Robo

As a final bit of icing on the proverbial cake of our inevitable destruction I give you..Dr. Dinosaur's Twitter account!

It doesn't really get any more perfect than her origin story, does it? You know the one. For the Doom fans out there, it was undoubtedly a Doombot, right?

Taken from 1992's Marvel Super-Heroes #8, by Steve Ditko and Will Murray and proving that the 90s weren't all bad.

When we first met Rahne Sinclair, back in the New Mutants Graphic novel, she was a terrified 13 year old, being pursued across her Scottish island home by a literal pack of torch-wielding villagers, led by the Reverend Craig, a Presbyterian minister of, even by Presbyterian standards, excessively strict views. (Translation - The man was nuttier than squirrel shit and had about as much to do with the Christian concepts of love and charity as a slug has to do with tap dancing)

Awesomeness and an unfortunate 1990's costume within.. ) i

Greetings True Believers!

This page and panel from Steve Niles' "Giant Monster" has always made me laugh.

A giant monster is rampaging across America and the only thing that can stop it is a giant Nazi robot. But one inquisitive lad has an important question for the government when they launch the robot.

From the mouth of babes......

Choosing One Perfect Moment for Atomic Robo is difficult because it's like a whole series of One Perfect Moments. But this scene, I think, really shows what Atomic Robo is about.

Atomic Robo, volume 3, issue 4. Two pages.
