'Talking about life generally… have you ever fell in love? I’m going to write this assuming you have, but if you haven’t (or don’t) I’d appreciate it if you went with me. Did you give consent to fall in love? Flip it around to the other person. Did they, by conscious action, force you to fall in love with them? I’d say the answer to both is “no”. The question of free will is an interesting one Re: Love. In regards to the feelings, I don’t think we have it. The actions connected to it, sure, but not the feelings itself. Whether Teddy was created by Billy’s subconscious or whether he actually fell in love the normal way (stating the obvious: one is a metaphor for the other in YA), he can’t choose to not be in love. However, he can choose how he acts. Teddy has already shown he has as much free will as anyone else when he left Billy.' -- Kieron Gillen

"The people who get it really get it, and there are people who don’t like Young Avengers, but I don’t think I was wrong about anything. The people who don’t like it, I literally can’t think of a way that they would like it, you know what I mean? That, to me, feels like pop music. They can’t tell the difference between Robyn or the Macarena or whatever. The genre is pop, therefore it’s s**t. The people who don’t like Young Avengers for the reasons you were just talking about feel like that to me. Your aesthetic doesn’t include this book, and that’s okay, but I wish it did." -- Kieron Gillen

"I used to horrify British writers by noting that my reviews improved for every panel I lost from a page, even from critics who often made a big show of raging against decompression. -- Kieron Gillen

"There are some people who think Bathos is, by its nature, bad. We are not those people. Comic deflation of genre excess is a good thing, Sez Us." -- Kieron Gillen

"As I said in Interviews, I wanted this to have a sort of bedsit indie feel. This isn’t a floorfiller of a comic. It’s really low-key for the most part. Hell, it’s constructed like a slice-of-life comic until… well, it isn’t." -- Kieron Gillen

'[I] found myself thinking about something Warren Ellis said back towards the early 00s. I thought it was in his column COME IN ALONE, but can’t find it if it was. Basically, saying that he guaranteed that there are “mainstream” writers picking over Chris Ware to see how you can apply it to superhero comics. It always struck me as strange that there was so little evidence of that…" -- Kieron Gillen

And by latest, I do mean the oneshot with the long name

Avengers The Children's Crusade Young Avengers #1

Totally an excuse for me to post one moment of squee. Seriously, if these guys were any closer, they'd be heterosexual life partners, half of whom actually are not heterosexual.

Okay, so let's call them BFFs.

No real spoilers.

There's a complicated time-travel framing event of this multi-timeframe issues, which has Iron Lad meeting the adult versions of the Young Avengers (Tom Shepherd is Quicksilver, Ted Altman is Captian Marvel, Elijah is Captain America and so on) in the future, and him telling them a story of the very first few days of the Young Avengers to remind them who they were...

Oh and Alan Davis art beneath (Do you NEED more motivation? Shame on you) )

Assuming you are as big a fan as I am, you also screamed something both guttural and squeaky from the deep recesses of your throat and then promptly began sobbing and crying for joy while making sounds reminiscent of the Muppets' Beaker.

Or maybe it's just me.

The last page of Avengers: The Children's Crusade #4. HUGE HUGE HUGE SPOILERS. I'M WARNING YOU NOW, IT'S REALLY BIG.
The giant paper timeline was right! )
