So dreadfully sorry for the delay, I have no excuse this time beyond being a horrible procrastinator with a terrible habit of never finishing what I start. I’ll just pretend I deliberately planned this to be closer to the release date of the new movie.

Toad comes up with a plan to use the Princess’ flying cape to get up to the pipe and bring back a rescue team for everyone else. Much later, the team arrives, but something seems off...





Luigi discovers that by eating a winged Koopa, Yoshi has somehow sprouted wings himself!



...only to crash land soon after when Yoshi accidentally inhales some stone and loses his wings, leaving them right in front of a sinister looking house...

Hold the phone, Shotaro Ishinomori did a Zelda comic? Like, THE Shōtaro Ishinomori?

Yep. It was an adaption of A Link to the Past. IIRC it was also originally serialized for Nintendo Power.

Viz did a new printing about eight years ago. It looks like it's a lot easier to find online than this Mario comic.

Edit: The 2015 Zelda cover is a pretty major downgrade from the 1990s one, though.

YES!! It ran in Nintendo Power from January-December 1992 in the same issues as this Mario comic! It's what got me into Zelda to start with.

I still have all the Nintendo Power issues, as well as both the US and Japanese TPB's (I also have the Star Fox and Super Metroid manga issues of Nintendo Power, both by Benimaru Itoh). In fact, you doing the Mario comic has been making me think I should post the Zelda manga here. I thought you might be doing it yourself since you're posting the Mario comic, but if you don't have the Zelda one, maybe I can step up once I dig my books out of the storage room. :D

This comic AWOKE something in me, when I realized Peach and Luigi rock each other's clothes better than they did their own, to me.

The Princess is a real force to be reckoned with, and Bowser and the Koopa kids were hilarious as villains. Luigi remain steadfastly goofy, but got his brave shiny moments.
