Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1 - "The Winning Card"

It's a completely unoriginal idea. I've done a lot of original ideas, this won't be one. This is a Joker-Batman story. You've seen a thousand Joker-Batman stories, this is another one. It's something you've all seen a thousand times. It's Joker and Batman in the beginning of their careers confronting each other. I've written a lot of original things. This is not that. -- Tom King

Joker is genuinely terrifying in the two or three panels with the little girl. But I thought early Joker criminal career after the acid bath was mostly less horrifying, before he turn into an evil monstrous killer?

Depending on which telling of the first encounter you read. Sometimes it was less horrifying. Other times, like "The Man Who Laughs", it's worse because Joker spent months using homeless people to perfect the Joker toxin, tossing the corpses in a warehouse. And the formula definitely needed tweaking from the looks of the bodies.
