Forever War: GI Joe 28

After the Snake Eyes palooza of the last few issues, this one entirely focuses on the simmering swampland subplot, so heat up that gumbo, chere, we g'wan down south!

I do love that, for all that he is a Real Villain in this, Cobra Commander is also basically Nega Michael Scott. He never wins because he's always dissing his subordinates and then getting betrayed by them. Even his guy, Storm Shadow, is just loyal to him because he's undercover. I guess that's the problem with being an evil overlord. By definition, you're going to be a bit of a douche too. Speaking of...

You decide: prescient commentary on drone warfare or just a rip-off of that one scene in Superman III?

Anyway, this all makes the issue one big battle scene between Cobra's reinforcements and Joe's reinforcements (big surprise, right?), highlighted by this brutal sequence.

Garth Ennis, eat your heart out.

Meanwhile, Nega Michael Scott is at it again--on the last page, Destro and Firefly come across each other, both itching for a regime change.

If Cobra Commander didn't betray Firefly, the poor man might feel left out.

Are you saying that not being betrayed by Cobra Commander would in itself be a betrayal?

Betrayal is how Cobra Commander hugs.

The knife is only metaphorical. And literal.
