Wizard Magazine had a "create a villain" fan contest and then failed to deliver on any of the rewards beyond "this character will appear in a comic".
Marvel used him as a series regular in Thunderbolts until they decided he was more trouble than he was worth legally on account of the creators actually wanting to be compensated.
I mean there's really no shortage of ways that someone who created a character got screwed over by someone with more money and less creative input.
Charcoal feels like a unique case - if only because this feels less Marvel's fault than Wizard's - but I can't help but think about Randy Schueller's involvement in Venom's creation... both in the sense that Marvel refuses to acknowledge the creator and I think the creator has less to do with the character's popularity than the professional creative teams that fleshed him out.
But if Rob Liefeld is going to continue getting credit for Deadpool then they really ought to do the same for the Frosts...even if Fabian and others did most of the work in both cases.
Given that, as Amazon, she made a halfway decent member of the Thunderbolts for a while, I've always felt she could be another one capable of making a decent go of it as a not-villain. Maybe not -hero- but there could be a place for her in the morally grey areas or with proper motivation. (Imagine: Titania, Amazon, and Frenzy as this trio of immensely powerful female badasses taking care of business across the Marvel landscape...)
Now, given Simon's... long history of questionable or just outright bad decisions, I'm sure that this time he at least has a good reason for attacking Atlas? Maybe? A little? ... he doesn't, does he?

Altas: I can't think of any reason why not.
