Given the whole debacle with Viper sneaking in and poisoning damn near everyone nearly leading to Rogue dying the X-Men would be a bit more on edge. Given the whole mess with Mastermind and Phoenix and all that crap, the Professor might use those mighty psychic powers of his just to keep an eye over the wedding to make sure no-one's head is messed with, if only on the grounds of "better safe than sorry". Or at the very least he'd be able to spot when someone's having their head messed with by Mastermind. But clearly, no.
So... does Mariko have no-one in her life? Aunts? Cousins? School friends? Casual acquaintances? Servants who Viper didn't kill? She has no-one to fill the role but Kitty? (Or did they just give her the job to stop her whining about Ororo's hairdo?)
