(though it is, admittedly, maybe not the most suitable attire for a traditional wedding.

Given the whole debacle with Viper sneaking in and poisoning damn near everyone nearly leading to Rogue dying the X-Men would be a bit more on edge.
Given the whole mess with Mastermind and Phoenix and all that crap, the Professor might use those mighty psychic powers of his just to keep an eye over the wedding to make sure no-one's head is messed with, if only on the grounds of "better safe than sorry". Or at the very least he'd be able to spot when someone's having their head messed with by Mastermind.
But clearly, no.

So... does Mariko have no-one in her life? Aunts? Cousins? School friends? Casual acquaintances? Servants who Viper didn't kill?
She has no-one to fill the role but Kitty?
(Or did they just give her the job to stop her whining about Ororo's hairdo?)

Kitty's reaction is a bit more understandable if it's a case of Stupid Sexy Flansers. At this period of time Kitty was so far in the closet she was in Narnia.

Great moment for Rogue proving herself to Wolverine and the others and how she should have been on the team.

Nice turns and the fallout issues later on Mariko was nicely handled along with the Storm turn.

And yes I do love Maddie's reaction to Lockheed, wonderful work by Smith.

The panel with Maddie really made me want a plush Lockheed.

Mariko's family starts with her half-brother the Silver Samurai, so "probably not many left alive" and someone who can phase has a better chance than most of surviving to the wedding.

A few issues later Storm and Kitty discussed this, with Storm saying "I am your teammate and friend, but I cannot be your mother."

STORM #1 from 2023 had a flashback of Kitty's shock at this being "Storm changes her look and personality a LOT. And before we met she was a thief and then a goddess."
