Metamorpho: The Element Man #2 - "The Woman From Yesterday!"

image host

This is why METAMORPHO is the comic I take the greatest joy in the act of writing - my love for this particular tone and style is the root of my sense of humour, but it's also an honest and deeply held appreciation and I wish people understood that more. It's not a satire on old comics! I honestly think more comics should have thought balloons and chatty omniscient narrators, and one of my most sincere ambitions in the artform is to write the word "yvoorg" into a comic and have someone publish it! That chummy omniscient narrator calling you "Metamaniacs" is the closest you'll ever get to the real me! -- Al Ewing

...still hearing Malcom McDowell's voice when Mod talks. And they're leaning into that, clearly, duckies.

Not sure I like Elemental Women's characterization these days. Wasn't there a story where she wanted to die and Death showed up for a chat?

Bob Haney would've scripted " Vandal Savage knew Java back when " in a Brave and the Bold story.

Is Mod giving anyone else Jimmy Saville vibes...? :(

Neanderthal? Isn't Java homo erectus?

Of course Ewing is giving us the deep cuts. Where’s Ding Dong Daddy?

Yeah, it was a classic issue of Gaiman’s Sandman.
Given how very loosely that was connected to a DCU of several reboots ago, I’m cool with a more swinging, adventurous, joyful version of Rainie as seen here.

I wonder what happened to that post-Flashpoint Element Woman we got in the Justice League for all of ten minutes though…

He's a caveman. Why bother with scientific specification? He doesn't.

Emily Sung?
She just sort of vanished.
Maybe it was because she was heavily associated with the New 52, or maybe she was just one of those Geoff Johns ideas that fizzled out. Or both.

Vandal knowing Java is one of those ideas so perfect and obvious I can’t believe no one’s ever thought of it before. Leave it to Ewing!

Elemental Girl’s “who wouldn’t want to live forever” line is a deeply and darkly hilarious twist, considering her best known story.

"Java" is from Java Man. If Java is a Neanderthal, shouldn't he have been named something German?

Or maybe he's "Java" because he drinks a lot of coffee. Yeah, that must be it. Do I get a no-prize?

Even in a crisis, the Mod is so cool he quotes LCD Soundsystem. I like that in a villain.
