I never cared much for Barda till now.

Really? 'Cause she's always like this, pretty much.

Barda is the best! My second favorite superhero ever.

My god do I HATE that cover. Look at Barda's boobs, that looks PAINFUL.

She's not even wearing that costume inside the comic.

Yeah, so?

I'm not allowed to bitch about the costume now? :P

No, I was agreeing with you about the cover by pointing out another flaw.

I love the cover despite the random cleavage. It would be a perfect cover if it weren't for that, but it's still very nice.

That's a lot like what my breasts look like when I'm wearing a badly-fitting push-up bra. ...I try not to let that happen, because, you know, it looks stupid, but it does happen.

Why Barda is wearing a badly-fitting push-up bra, and where the chestplate of her armor went, is another question entirely. Wacky misunderstanding about traditional Earth battle-gear combined with an unexpected fight with the amazing Instant Rust Woman?

Date: 2009-10-31 12:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
It actually looks like the chestplate is too small for her uh, breasts. So they get pushed inwards and spill over the top. That's why I don't like it.

How does Knockout fight with such tiny hands and broken wrist...?

Date: 2009-10-31 07:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Well as for the broken wrist that I can explain. I knew an actor/acrobat who broke his arm in a stunt during a play's performance and continued the rest of the play like that.

I like that she says the line about sex within earshot of Scandal. Who apparently is not at all perturbed by ending up on the losing end of the comparison.

Man, Nicola drew a beautiful Barda. And this was an awesome fight. Knockout was on her way to start it up again when she was killed.

Date: 2009-10-31 12:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Really? Because I HATED how she drew both Barda and Knockout. They both looked so ... SKINNY.

Date: 2009-10-31 02:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
I know, right? Barda weighs frickin' 260 pounds. She's a wall of curves and muscles and awesomeness. Nicola Scott's Barda is pretty, but not really Barda.

Funny, though, her Knockout's about right. I think maybe it's the armor? Both of their costumes are basically painted on, which makes sense for Kay's leotard thing but on Barda's obviously inch-thick armor makes her look even more undersized - she actually looks fragile to me here, which is weird even for Scott's typically svelte style.

That was, like, my first thought! Her calves are skinnier than mine, for chrissakes . . .

Seeing DEM ARMS on that cover makes me woefully disappointed by how willowy their arms are in the book itself.

Hee hee! Another treat, my favorite Six incarnation again!

Work that noogie, Harley! Not that I dislike Misfit, I just had a Misfit-Shouldn't-Take-Steph's-place thing for a while.

The only thing I really hate about that cover is the green lips. Love Kay's big hair and big guns!

Tried this last time without much success, here's attempt #2:

Well, Steph has now taken Misfit's, so no worries on that score anymore.

Wait - Steph took Cass' place. :D

And Misfit never really had a place, hence her name. :D

But seriously, I do think Misfit belongs under Babs' wing, if that's what you mean by her place. They should be scouting out a tall, unassuming, abandoned building in Gotham. Steph belongs with Timmy strike>with Cass with Timmy and Cass in purple. Actually, I wonder how they would get along.

"Deserter" is a pretty ineffective taunt. More a statement of fact.

Date: 2009-10-31 02:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Well, not entirely. A deserter is traditionally a coward who flees battle for fear of getting hurt or killed. Barda's closer to "traitor" or "turncoat," since she's generally stayed in the battle, just on a different side.

Barda was not my choice, Dan asked me to put her into the book, but I fell in love with the character pretty hard. People just were really seeming to dig her when they did that whole Fifth World thing, which I have to admit I don't care for at all.

I wasn't sure I wanted her in the book but very quickly she became a favorite.

Man, I don't remember what put me in mind for it (i think i was trying to refresh myself on some things about Helena), but I ended up re-reading this one and Blood and Circuits last week.

I miss Birds, even if I started reading after it was cancelled. :(

I don't know that Kay's the type to be concerned by a little homewrecking. Except in that it might make her relish the seduction more.

Yeah, but trying to break up Scott and Barda? Isn't that a bit like trying to get Superman to say "Holy fuck on a shit-stick"?

From: [identity profile]
Was Barda's implied multiple rapes that Scott cared nothing about pre- or post-Crisis?

Date: 2009-11-04 09:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
You mean the porn tape stuff? That was post-Crisis. I wouldn't say that Scott didn't care, exactly, I think he did set out to rescue her as soon as he found out.

His reaction though was... well out of place from what it should have been, as I recall, and was more about potential indignities suffered by Superman rather than actual harm suffered by his wife.

Foreplay? Okay, we've gone far, far past subtext and it is completely awesome. But then again, Barda has always been awesome.
