*gasp*! Jimmy's quit his job at the Daily Planet and joined a violence gang!
An undercover job with a bunch of gun-toting rogues, with the high possibility of danger and possible death. Jimmy's probably enjoying the soothing getaway from Lucy Lane.
In terms of spectacular Kirby vistas, a city carved out of a single giant tree is... oh, maybe about 6/10? Ish? Not a knock on anything, just with Kirby vistas the bar's set pretty high.
I'll say this much for Kirby: unlike 60s Superman editor Mort Weisenger, who really, really hated hippies,* the Fourth World at least tried to depict (albeit in distorted form) both sides of the era's "youth counterculture." The Outsiders stood in for the militant, in some cases violent, "New Left" groups such as the Weathermen. The Forever People represented the peaceful, mystical "flower power" hippies, minus the drugs of course.
*So much so that Weisenger used his influence to get Brother Power the Geek, a NON-Superman title, cancelled after only two issues. Presumably because, while the title did stereotype hippies as lazy do-nothings, it portrayed them overall as harmless and likeable -- not as Maoist thugs bent on burning down America itself, harumph. 🙄
"Jimmy Olsen, you have fallen in with a bad crowd and become a hoodlum! Now I must banish you into the Phantom Zone -- forever!" "No, wait, Superman, it's not wha - aaaaaaaaaaagh!" "That'll teach him."
(But in fairness, "horribly wrong" is relative with Jimmy. Superman tries to destroy his life just to teach him a lesson every other month.)
With Jimmy, there's a lot of overlap. Not to mention third parties showing up to destroy Jimmy's life, requiring Superman and / or Jimmy to beat them to the punch. Can't scuttle the ship if it's already scuttled!
