So the sheriff's greatest fear was... fanged purple humanoid monsters which shoot eyebeams? That's a rather specific fear.

The kamara itself isn't especially scary, here in its first appearance, as opposed to how Bisette and Totleben would draw it in Swamp Thing. Though that's probably the point.

And in any case, for sheer under-the-skin terror -- in terms of what's implied rather than shown -- nothing beats the kamara's transformation, in Swamp Thing #26, into little Jessica's greatest fear.
