For those interested, I've recently published a zine, Boy and Girl Wonders: Robin in Cultural Context. Any earnings made by me from this are being donated to charities which help children in crisis. If you've ever been interested to know what existing myths were tapped into by Robin's creation, or how later media has been shaped by Robin's impact, this'll be just your cup of tea.

Speaking of Robins, here's a scene from the one-shot story "Batman/Demon", in which Batman has to venture into hell for something or other, and meets a familiar face on the way.

Sounds an interesting piece of work, might just have to give that a lookover. :)

As for the art posting, I'm a little disappointed that Batman simply didn't reject the notion that Jason would have ended in hell from the word go. Have a little faith Bruce, if not in the divine, then at least in your Robin (Or possibly answer the question by asking if he really DID push the raping, suicide inducing sleazebag with the diplomatic immunity off the balcony)

Actually, given how Jason acted in the time leading up to his death, and Bruce's uncompromising moral views, I can believe that he could believe that Jason could have ended up in hell.

Not that that ever stops him from getting new Robins.

Wow, Jason is such a non-character here-- he's a GREAT symbol OF Batman's guilt (which was obviously the point) but I love that Batman yells out Jason's full name... just to remind the readership. Sigh. Well, at least Batman *does* seem to feel guilty here; that's a step up from Under the Hood.

And now, 3 notes:

(1) Your book looks fascinating/right up my alley. I'll totally get a copy. What charity are you planning on donating to, do you know?

(2) My blog is having technical difficulties right now (I'm locked out of updating and I have to have my webhost reset my login) but once it's up again, would you mind if I rec'd your book at Comics & Culture (http://www.comicsandculture.com/?page_id=2)

(3) You have totally inspired me to repost my "The History of Jason Todd" series. I've been hemming and hawwing for awhile, but I think it must be done! Thanks for the jumpstart. :)

Can I just say that I think it's just generally neat-o that not only have you taken the time to write a thoughtful zine placing Robin in his/her cultural context, but that half of S_D would love to give it a read?

Yeah, I think that's pretty cool.

Oh, poor Batman. Poor Jason.

Also, that is FREAKING AWESOME that you've written a book/zine on Robins! I just bought the e-book version and I look forward to reading it.

Well that was pretty heartbreaking. D=

Though the zine you linked is saying that it's 'not available'... is that a regional thing or..?
