I just now noticed something that I can't believe I never noticed before. Santa's reindeer are all bucks, yes? As evidenced by the antlers. But one of them is named 'Vixen'. Vixen is the term for a female fox; it is almost inherently a GIRL'S name. So what's going on? Is Vixen just a buck with a doe's name, or a doe in antler-drag, or what? Thoughts?

Actually, reindeer of both genders are antled but the bucks shed their antlers when it's not mating season. So since Santa's reindeers are all antlered at Christmas it's probably all females.

Well, I can honestly say that I did not know that. Is there a reason for this? I mean, bucks have antlers because of dominance rituals to get the best mates; do female reindeer participate in these as well, or is it just a freak of nature? For that matter, do they have smaller ones than males, or are they the same size?
