As some may know, I am fond of Brendan McCarthy in the same way Tom Cruise is of Hubbard, and have posted a few examples of his work here. Well, I find out today he's doing SPIDER-MAN: FEVER, in which he's using Spidey and Dr. Strange, and is going full-scale hyper-Ditko with it. As soon as I was sure my salivation was under control and would not damage the book, I bought it and, well, this is fun in so many different ways. And besides--FOR FUCK'S SAKE, IT'S McCARTHY DOING A COMIC! ARE YOU BLIND?
BEHOLD! A TASTE! BUY THIS!

It opens with Spidey reading a BUGLE that has as its headline "FERAL CATS EAT CHURCH LADY WHO FED THEM," by the way, while he's trying to read the TV listings. Then the Vulture comes along("How'd you get out?" / "Lawyer.") and then some very cool fighting and crashing and then this is what the man who wears this outfit has to say.

Something makes the Vulture hit him with bug spray. Little-known fact: it's been established before(I remember it but can't place the story) that bug spray in fact fucks with Spidey's powers and nervous system. And it does. He ends up in Dr. Strange's tub(unbeknownst to Strange who's got this whole other matter going on)And then this.

"I'll have it WITH CUSTARD!" says the big evil spider-demon a moment later.
I wonder if it's possible, the spider being in the tub and all, if this whole thing was inspired by Brendan fighting a particularly implacable spider in his own tub. (and then there's "Itsy Bitsy Spider")
And a bit of SWIMINI PURPOSE, a frustratingly rare McCarthy book I'd love to find.
