LGBTQ Roll Call

With June being LGBTQ Pride, I couldn't think of a better time to do a Roll Call celebrating exceptional LGBTQ characters in comics.

While there have been a number of LGBTQ characters, most of them at best have been relegated to minor characters and at worst deplorable homophobic queer minstrel shows.
And don't get it conflated.

Visibility is not progress.

If it were then the Rawhide Kid and Northstar would be progressive trailblazing characters.

So no, this isn't just my list of queer comic characters.

This is a salute to the elite characters who have provided me with a more than a few OH HELL YEAH! moments.
A list of characters and made me proud to be a comic book geek and an LGBTQ.

Also, if you haven't already, feel free to check out my recent post on No_Scans discussing Queer Tropes to better understand where I'm coming from on this.

That being said: ROLL CALL!!!!!!!

So if you have any recommendations of awesome exceptional prominent LGBTQ characters in comics then by all means, sharing is caring. Please post them away in the comments.

I never said I liked taking crumbs. I said I've taken crumbs when it was take crumbs or starve and used those crumbs to give me the strength to obtain more. I've taken an intolerant, stereotyped perspective I've been awarded as a woman, as a nonChristian, as a homeschooler, as a Southerner, as a nerd, and used it to lay the groundwork to expand that person's perspective.

"Yes, I am a homeschooler. No, that does not mean I am a Fundamentalist Christian."

"Yes, I am a Pagan. No, that does not mean I eat babies."

"Yes, I am a Southerner. No, that does not mean I am ignorant."

'Yes, I do read comics. No, that does not mean I live in my parents' basement."

"Yes, I do have chronic depression and PTSD. No, that does not mean I'm going to come after you with a knife."

Et cetera ad nauseum.

Miss, I seriously was not judging you. Your knapsacking the subject now of who has suffered more and I refuse to participate in that game.
There is no need. especially when I stated we must have varying perspectives and even more than ever I maintain that.
Varying perspectives does not mean one is right nor one is wrong or one has suffered more than the other so that person must be right.

Sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I got annoyed at the OP's assertion that none of the rest of us had ever had to deal with negative stereotypes. I apologize.

Rawhide Kid was a retcon at a time when there were already out gay charecters in comics, not a "first" when there were no out gay characters in comics.

Not really. I just don't see your point. One minute you're complaining about the fact that Northstar is a "gay stereotype" and the other minute you're saying that his relationships with people as something other than a gay man (brother, mentor, team-mate) don't count. I thought a "gay stereotype" was portrayed exclusively in terms of his gay relationships.

You've had it pointed out to you more than once by more than one person that your comments are derailing and offensive. LGBTQ do not need you to tell them how they should feel about their media representation or how to define homophobia. They do not need you to dismiss their concerns.

At this point I'd advise you to take a step back from the conversation and examine your privilege.

No problem, it happens to me all the time. I'm not even sure which version of the code works on dreamwidth. Is it [I], , or ?

"Pointy brackets" aka the "greater than" and "less than" indicators

Thank you. Is it upper-case or lower-case letters inside the pointy brackets?

Doesn't matter, the html code isn't case sensitive,

Thanks. I've seen some code that is sensitive, and it's a pain to remember all their eccentricities.
