If you're familiar with the Star Wars Expanded Universe, you've probably heard of Dark Empire, the comics arc where the Emperor came back and Luke Skywalker turned to the Dark Side. Fandom has mixed emotions about it, and for good reason.

My father's destiny... is my own. )
Later I may post other pages from Dark Empire.

Earlier I posted scans from Hal Jordan's old Green Lantern run, showing his eventual attempts at recovering from the aimless drifter his character had become over the 70s and 80s before Emerald Twilight put an end to it. Continuing from there...

1 scan from GL v.3 #26, 5 from #32, 6 from #33, 6 from #34 & 6 from #35 )

Or training for something.

So now everything but the Thunderbolts tie-in's over for Hulk's Scorched Earth, leaving us with the fallout of the Intelligentsia's machinations; Doom's brain damage, a spider legged MODOK, and the Red Hulk.

The last of whom's been establishing his presence in the larger MU, riding along with the Avengers and unwillingly killing Araña's dad. He even seems to be getting Hulk to himself for the next few, while Bruce rages against the gods in Incredible Hulks..

..so now's the perfect time to give him his own enemies, foes outside himself.

People who he can punch in the face such that we're rooting for him, at least. )

Here are my less-than-four pages from this week's comic that had me, lazy trade-only buyer, trekking to an actual comic store to snag it.

Deadpool & Cable #26: In which Deadpool nostalgizes/summarizes/hallucinates the high points of Cable & Deadpool and Messiah War and etcetera to the present, viewed as Deadpool's bittersweet love letter to his BFF, Cable. And by "BFF," I mean "apparently Valentine's Day has arrived a week and a half early!"

Read the first 6 sad/funny/sad pages here. (ETA Link fixed.) And then 2 pages plus a bit under the cut!

It was love at first sight. )

This was meant to be part of our end of year ~*extravaganza*~, but the holidays turned out to be busier than expected and the project fell by the wayside. But because we love it (and all of you, natch), we are reviving it in hopes of having something ready this month (which is, btw Black History Month, heyyyy).

So we thought to ourselves, Scans Mods, you know what would be great? A calendar of geekmembrance. A calendar to track all the geek holidays, and the important celebrations of our diverse membership. And then we thought to ourselves, wouldn't that be a fun project for the community as a whole?

Here's how it's going to work:

You nominate days of remembrance and celebration that would or should be significant for a large number of your fellow members. We compile the data and put together a graphic calendar for the community to reference when considering figuring out what to post.

To get things started, we've come up with a few nominations of our own.

Black History Month ~ February!
Free Comic Book Day ~ First Saturday in May!
International Read Comics in Public Day (Jack Kirby's birthday) ~ August 28th!
LGBTQ History Month ~October!
Wonder Woman Day ~ The last Sunday in October! (but never halloween!)
Halloween ~ October 31st!
International Day to End Violence Against Women ~ Nov. 25 (and Dec. 6 in Canada)
National Transgender Day of Remembrance ~ Late November, but varies!
Lunisolar New Year ~ varies, usually second new moon after the winter solstice
New Years Day ~ Jan. 1!

* Note: We will not be including national holidays.

Every week, Publisher's Weekly spotlights a comic in a column called Panel Mania.

Graylight, by Naomi Nowak, was featured on October 26, 2009. Pretty, dreamy art.

The images are kinda big—if you'd prefer to view them in a gallery setting, go here.

In Larry Hama's G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #161, the Joes must interrogate Storm Shadow to make sure he's not a double agent. But that's easier said than done when your interrogatee is a ninja.
