For 25 issues, the monster Gorgo had her own comic series.  That's even longer than Marvel's Godzilla (by a single issue).

A movie that a lot of giant monster fans love, loaded with symbolism regarding the political "Troubles" of Northern Ireland and suggested by Leonard Maltin (who gave it 3 stars) for Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Lets take a look.

IO9.com has the preview of the new Image Comics title, the Great Pacific.

(And no, the Gorillaz are not part of this story, although the idea has been referenced before)

Before Milo Manara embarked on a lucrative career as a porn artist, he created Giuseppe Bergman (1978), a down on his luck loser of an alter ego who's tired of the modern world and longs for a Great Adventure.

This is a comedy, with occasional nudity, sex and violence - but Manara is writing and drawing always tongue firmly in cheek, satirizing everything through his protagonist. Think Dan Clowes.

Since she's returned to comics after a lengthy absence (last seen being drugged by Tim Drake after eating some chocolates he'd doped, I think it was) I thought that it'd be fun to post some bits of Lady Shiva injuring people out of context.

If only because she's more interesting than Deathstroke, despite filling the same niche as him (only she got where she as by hard graft, while he cheats by having explicit superpowers) while having an actual code of conduct instead of just pretending to have one these days.

So here we go!

INSUFFERABLE is a webcomic by Mark Waid and Peter Krause, the first title to come out from Thrillbent, the line of webcomics that Waid and John Rogers recently started up (and which Waid sold his entire comic book collection to help fund).

It asks the question: What happens when you’re a crimefighter and your sidekick grows up to be an arrogant, ungrateful douchebag? What on Earth could draw the two of you back together again?

Here are a selection of scenes from the first six "issues." The full run of the series is available for free at http://www.thrillbent.com.

Plus it's Nikola Tesla's 156th birthday today, and wanted to mark it somehow.

Though I thought he had a moustache.

In the third volume of the Borgia series, once again I choose an arresting sequence that demonstrates the finest qualities of Milo Manara's art, his talent for painstaking details and gorgeous designs.

A horror title from Image's Skybound imprint, which has aptly been described as "Doctor Strange meets House".

In this one-shot, a man wakes up in a hotel bathtub full of ice with an incision in his side... but there's no missing kidney, and no sign of drugs.

Well, I do mean sort of, this is a line that in Japan was launched as part of the Transformers franchise back in the 1980's, when they were released in the rest of the world there was no Transformers connection, and it looks like the comic is going down that road too.

Back before Pokémon made it cool for humans to make little animals fight for no sensible reason, some animals were doing it for themselves. Can you guess what toy line I mean, or are you all too young?

Final clue...

I just learned about this manga through it's anime(S'on netflix.) and now I feel compelled to tell everyone about it. It's the first manga I have read in a long time.

Pumpkin Scissors by Ryoutarou Iwanaga published by Kondasha. The first 5 volumes were published in English by Del-Rey then Kodansha made an English devision and hasn't picked it up. Perhaps some interest could get them to. The scans are spread out over the first 5 volumes in an attempt to give an insight into the main characters I think each volume is around 250 pages so I don't think I'm going over with 20. There is violence, being a manga about military and all, but I don't think it's graphic.

Enough talk. Let's go. )
Not sure how to tag this since it's probably never going to be brought up again.

My contribution for Beyond the Big 2 Week.

WARNINGS for depiction of war torture techniques and general violence? And heads.

And ninjas.

SKYWORLD is a urban myths and fantasy comic set in an alternate Philippines where the country is taken over by creatures called asuang between 2000 and 2012.

Lovingly scanned by myself with permission from the artist himself. The art is amazing, the dialogue is great, and the story's pretty awesome.
