It's "Off-Topic Tuesday" time!

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.

As January ends with a rather overworked Grim Reaper putting together one HELL of a band, February comes in with a significant puncture to the... let's say "remarkable" ego of Donald Trump in the Iowa Caucausuausus (Sorry, I word I can start spelling, but not actually STOP spelling) and Bernie Saunders doing better than had been expected for the other side.

And Galavant ended it's enormously fun second season with a rousing battle, some character developement, and a host of happy (or at least satisfying) endings, and should be remembered for, if nothing else, giving Gareth (aka noted former footballer and hard man) Vinnie Jones a Cole Porter style number to sing (and do rather well in) AND a sappy Disneyesque love ballad... in his own initiable way.

"Then…in our lobby…a group of us opened the book. There was complete silence for a long time. 13 issues. Penciled and rendered by the very best people working today. It’s hard to find a bad page. New ideas. New characters. New WORLDS to explore! We, the people working around Neal every day, had to admit it…Neal’s still got it. No, that’s not fair. He’s actually gotten BETTER. Much, much better." - Peter Stone

In the previous issue, Hitler ordered the construction of a mechanical T. rex to stop the Giant and wreak havoc on New York, and dispatched the Crane to pilot it. It seems Giant has met his match. Or...has he?

Some things are as nothing against some other things.

There's a bit in the most recent Mighty Avengers run that illustrates this.

There's one in The Mutant Misadventures of Cloak and Dagger that does so in the same way.

What's being demonstrated is the exact same. )

"At its heart, I think comics is still a misfits' medium. It's a community of outsiders, a bunch of men and women who, for a myriad of reasons, have trouble conforming to the expected form, who seek a temporary escape from the good, hard pain that comes from pushing against the mold, hoping it'll finally break.

"Somehow, panels and words, spandex and punching, they magically ease all that. It doesn't make a a ton of sense to me why. But I'll take it.

"For me, The Vision is a chance to explore the alienation that sometimes attracts people to comics, the tension that comes from not being normal in a society that demands normality."
-- Tom King

"I was definitely inspired by what Fraction and David Aja have done on HAWKEYE — how they managed to stay true to the character in the Avengers while also taking it in a fresh direction, so it wasn't just that same Avengers character doing solo things, which I don’t think ever really works for any sustained period of time for any of those second-tier characters." -- James Robinson
