The colorist for BoP #2 posted this on her DeviantArt page, stating "This is a treat for you guys, not the final published page, and I bet some of you will be able to pick out why....."

Dinah's ass is truly magnificent. But I gotta admit, I prefer the published version. Less...glowy.

I think I'm either getting inured or something, because it honestly took me three looks to notice the difference, even though I saw there were more shadows in the published page.

On another note...

Helena's stomach in that first panel looks so weird...looks like a combination of penciled/inked shading conflicting with the coloured shading...

And, once again, I'm left with the impression that Benes isn't actually drawing that costume on Helena - the window over her stomach is never fully outlined - it's just flesh into white without a separating line. (Compare White Canary's butt to Helena's stomach in the panel where Dinah's ass got shadowed for a demonstration of what I mean.) Her legs, on the other hand, are clearly drawn bare.

Even with the memory of Gratuitous Butt-Shot Week fresh in my mind, that's... pretty gratuitous. I wonder if Benes' idea of restraint was to shadow out WC's camel-toe in that last panel.

Sooo, I gotta ask the gals around here: I know you (mostly) like this comic, but I have always wondered why, because I just can't get past all the really tacky costuming. This has meant that the ONLY female superhero comic I've ever picked up was Cass' Batgirl until it went to crap.

How did (do?) you get past the outfits to take it seriously?

Though I must say that I find it way more disconcerting that apparently, in the same panel, White Canary's leg is on fire.

Right? I mean this is a superhero comic, so I'm willing to suspend a lot of real-world expectation to enjoy the story but I draw the line at people who oil their asses for a night fight.

My impression is that people around here read BoP despite the buttshots and gratuitous outfits drawn by Benes.

The same way men do. Or the same way we ignore the improbable and tacky costuming on pretty much every super-hero book, whether it features male characters or female ones. We ignore it and focus on the storyelling (such as it is).
