When Batman's Been Dead - Batman & Robin 13: The Essence of Dick Grayson

Possible spoiler.

People may knock Morrison, or for that matter Frazer Irving(whom I like, and hope I don't see a cascade of flames here), on BATMAN & ROBIN. But for my own part, Morrison has taught me to respect Dick Grayson, and to understand what he is. And to me, this sequence, in the final panel, is the essence of what Dick Grayson is. He never gives up and there's always a way. If Batman is "justice", Grayson is "hope."


Also, you can knock Grant all you like, but Dr. Hurt's far more interesting than, say, Hush.(and I just noticed a tiny hint of Adams in Dick in that last panel. Probably unintended but neat)

Agreed. Strange should be Bruce's Professor Moriarty. He kind of already is, from the way he's been used in the past, but he doesn't get the acknowledgment that he deserves.

He should have been in the Hurt role in BATMAN R.I.P. Unlike Hurt--a nobody, no-name character who emerges amid pomp and self-promotion to pretty much do nothing--Strange has long ago earned his threat level. AND using Strange would have been a much better way to tie together Batman's history, as Morrison seemed to intent on doing.

But no, much better to create the "ULTIMATE BATMAN VILLAIN" out of a nameless doctor character who appeared in one or two pages of "Robin Dies at Dawn!" rather than, y'know, actually using a guy who was essentially Batman's first arch-nemesis, who actually has a history of doing that sort of thing.

I wouldn't disagree. I like me some Strange. I'm just saying that of newly-concocted threats Hurt is better than Hush, that's all.

As Morrison is very cagey about who Hurt really is...did you consider this could have something to DO with Strange?

Given this IS his MO. Just a thought.

I'm doubtful that Morrison has plans for Strange since we already saw the character being (mis)used by Tony Daniel in BATMAN and then by David Hine in DETECTIVE.

But if Strange is later revealed to be somehow involved in this whole plan, then my overall opinion of this saga shall rise hugely, and I shall happily eat crow for doubting Master Morrison.
