30 Days of Scans: A Character I'd Bring Back From the Dead

I found this a tough category, not because there's a shortage of possibilities, but because I'd want to bring back a character that would serve good stories and could have future potential. Ted Kord, of course, springs to mind, but I'm reluctant there because we've seen some great stories and actual impact coming from his death, as well as an awesome legacy hero, rather than it being a throwaway death. Skin would be another thought, but then you have wonder what you'd be bringing him back to - the rest of Generation X are pretty much shuffled to one side, the next generation after them are either dead or ignored - bringing him back for writers to shuffle aside again seems to be a pointless exercise.

So I'm going for a character that I think could actually have potential in terms of future stories and who has relationships with existing characters, so his return could have an impact, if writers choose to pick it up.

And that character is Sean Cassidy AKA Banshee.

For a start, Sean's an elder statesmen of the X-men and has potential to fill an important role, mentoring younger mutants. He's filled that role before, but the attempts to shuffle the younger X-men (Iceman, Rogue, Kitty, Cannonball etc) into roles as teachers never really clicked for me. You've then got years of history to draw on - he's got relationships with most of the generations of X-men, be it the original team, the Wolverine generation, Emma Frost and Gen X and, obviously, Siryn and the X-Force and New Mutants crowd. There's so much there that could be drawn on and I've always thought his sidelining and then non-event death which was never mentioned outside of the miniseries in which it happened, was a real waste of a great character.

Various scans from Uncanny X-men #119, Generation x #25 and #32.

Is there a reason why Moira looks 13?

Also, call me old and crusty, but I know which art style I prefer...and it ain't the latter stuff.

Beat me to it. And I was just going through some Respect threads to find great scans of Sean.

Miss him very much.

"Ted Kord, of course, springs to mind, but I'm reluctant there because we've seen some great stories and actual impact coming from his death"

Thank you so much for saying this. I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe some time in the future it might be fun to revive Ted, but right now I'm really enjoying the stories and character development that have resulted from his death.

They never should've killed Banshee. Always loved him.

Just for the record, Banshee's death was mentioned in one particular series: PAD's X-Factor. Rather well too, in my opinion.

I've always liked Banshee. He didn't need to be covered in angst in order to be interesting. I worry he'll get forgotten about because he's not as popular as someone like Kitty and doesn't have a resurrection gimmick like Jean, which would be a real shame.

Gone but not forgotten.

As long as Peter David is on X-Factor, Banshee will remain a presence, even in death.

I miss Sean too. His non-event death was ridiculous (and wasn't it tied to the appearance of that ridiculous Summers brother, Vulcan? Ugh). I first came to know him as part of the first "All-New, All-Different" team with Storm et al, but I especially enjoyed the sniping between him and Emma Frost when they were tutoring Generation X (god, I miss THAT Emma, as well.)

I have a feeling Sean will be back someday. In my personal canon that plane explosion just dropped him off in some other dimension. Stranger things have happened to allow less popular characters to return.

Good answer! How did I not think of him?

I guess this is unofficially the official post for the day?

Characters I'd like to see brought back from the dead? Pretty much all of them--or a least most of them. Maybe some of the villains, like The Top and Terra (I) can stay dead, but definitely all the heroes and the supporting cast need to come back. And that includes those characters who aren't actually dead but have been victims of character assassination like Lucy Lane and Roy Harper.
