So, this is...Lois's Mom? I always thought her dad was the major. Major Sam Lane. It just seems highly improbable that both her parents were Majors...especially since wives don't automatically get the rank their husband help if they're married to him.

Lois' sister. Sometime paramour of Jimmy Olsen, though post-Crisis she's married to a different Planet guy named... Ron something, and even has a kid with him.

The military thing is kind of out of the blue, though, yeah. Apparently she joined up to please her daddy, but it can't have been more than five years in-universe since she was last around, and that's... not much time to become a major.

She's been trying to figure out who is superwoman, here she finds out. Its Lucy Lane, Lois Lane's sister. General Lane's daughter. Lucy is now following in her father's footsteps and has become a Major in the army
