generator_rex: I frankensteined this guy from images found in the All Spark Almanac. The character is Heinrad from Beast Wars Neo. (Default)

I can't explain it, but...

I'm really enjoying Aquaman since he came back to life.

I used to think of Aquaman as nothing but a cheap joke. Now I still make a lot of jokes at his expense, but I have a new found respect for him. I think John DiMaggio's portrayl of Aquaman in Batma: The Brave and The Bold is also a contributing factor.

If you like this, try reading 'Time and Tide' by Peter David. Also the first year or so of Peter David''s run on the regular Aquaman series. It's quite good.

He's not in it, but along those lines I very much recommend PAD and the amazing Esteban Maroto (oh, if I could only draw women half as well as he)'s ATLANTIS CHRONICLES. If it weren't for the ban on PAD material here I'd have posted some of it by now.

I thought that was Ernie Colon.

Ernie Colon did the original Maxi-series and the second short series (it may have been another 12 issues - either way it was about the same length as the first series).

Maroto illustrated a four-issue 'prestige' format mini a couple of years later, set about 20 years later on Gemworld, and about 5-10 later on earth. I think.

Regardless, the Maroto artwork was totally gorgeous and I heartily endorse it being posted on here!

Oh, that page from Blackest Night always gets to me. *sniffle* Good character choice in Aquaman, I had almost forgotten about how I used to giggle at his expense too (before I got into comics).

I don't know, this particular scene doesn't do it for me--didn't we see something similar with Kyle Rayner and Soranik Natu in GLC?

Sorta--if I remember right, the Sapphire that brought Kyle back did so by literally sharing Natu's heart with his, so they're both living with the same heart; whereas here Carol is using Arthur's love for her to help heal her while Saint Walker is washing out the remnants of the red ring.

Mera=breakout character of Blackest Night and admittedly Brightest Day has showed off Aquaman as being more awesome.

Yes, if/when they do a full-fledged Aquaman series, I hope they keep Mera as the co-star--they could very easily turn into the star couple of DC Comics. :D

Agreed - Mera has been so amazing in BN/ND. I hope they continue writing both characters this way! What a great couple!

For me, it was Brave and the Bold that won me over to Aquaman. Before he was just the butt of every super hero Joke or Namor lite. But making him the large ham/boisterous Bruiser of the DCverse was epic win.

I like the Shaun McLaughlin run (the last one before PAD cut off Swimmer's hand). Also probably where I started calling him Swimmer.

I give credit to Smallvile and brave and Bold, they made Aquaman a badass.... what happen to the OYL Aquaman again?

Didn't someone had Aqua with Kamina glasses?

Oh, even JoJo knows Aquaman is bad ass know!

He just says that one line and you feel like you been punched in the face... in a good way... in a good nonsexual way...

"what happen to the OYL Aquaman again?"

I seem to remember reading somewhere that he died. But, admittedly, I'm not sure what the hell's happened with Aquaman for a long freaking time, mostly because, from what I've seen, PAD tried a bit too hard to make it complicated.

I think it's Aquaman as we see him in most of the cartoons done until the current DCAU that ruined him. I remember reading Skeates & Aparo's run as a kid and I liked it because Aquaman was allowed to be angry, and things were allowed to change and develop in his stories.
