30 Days of Scans_Daily: Day 20: Storyline/Book I could read over and over again

Since I'm a hopeless softie inside, there are a lot of good stories being too sad for me to re-read. So the stories I could read over and over are usually quieter, less intense, slow-paced and most of them are short-story series instead of a long one.
Mushishi is one of my favorite manga. It has a solemn atmosphere that can calm me every time I read it. The art, story and the imagination are beautiful. Its anime adaptation is good too, wonderful background music and color. The time I saw the golden mist pervading the hill like silent burning flame, I was totally stunned. It was breathtaking. :D

Ah, darn. It's a Chinese searching engine I usually use. Those images must be on their blog. The engine's easier for me to use but they have a outlink ban.

Ah, such a pretty series.

I like Musushi, tho it ranges into horror at times. At least to me.

Yeah, I once stayed in a reservation with no cellphone signal for four days, climbing hills and doing research in forest with out teachers, meeting all kinds of insects in crazy shapes and sizes which didn't give a damn when humanbeings walked by. When you wake up in the morning seeing bug or moth as big as half your palm resting outside your mosquitonet, you'll understand where those Mushishi stories come from.

This is very intriguing. I love the mood and the eerie yet tranquil transition in the scans where the ghost appears. I'd love to see more!

The scan was from the first story of the whole series. It's also the first episode of its anime adaptation.
The ghost is Renzu, grandma of Shinra, the boy next to him. When Renzu was young, Renzu was told by the Mushi in the forest that her grandson would have power of making whatever he draw become reality. They wanted to grant Renzu power of the Light Wine to protect Shinra from being used by evil, but the ritual was disturbed and part of Renzu became ghost like Mushi and was left behind in the forest by her human half without knowing. Both of them guarded Shinra until he grew up and kept his power a secret. After human!Renzu died, Shinra met Mushishi Ginko. Ginko found Mushi!Renzu and helped found half the cup used in the ritual. He let Shinra draw the other half. When the cup became whole, it was soon full of Light Wine and the Light Wine brought Mushi!Renzu back to real life as you saw in the scan. :)
