Some posts back we saw how Pagan, BatBruce and Joe Public reacted when a Bloodlines parasite struck Gotham. That was then....
Now Gotham has been taken over by Bane, the Batman was broken and a new Dark Knight patrols the city as their must always be a Batman.
It's time for the new Batman to meet New Blood.
18 pages from a 56 page story.
Our story opens up as in a dark alleyway (which Gotham is composed of) and Angon in her human form attacking a man presumably one of many.
This took place seemingly between parts of Nightfall in which Commisioner Gordon wondered if Batman was really the original since Jean Paul had a very big mean streak during his Batman days.
Jean Paul sees Angon readying to attack a woman and her child. While he fails miserably at fighting her his distraction allows the two to escape before Angon could kill them and after a few attack attempts Jean Paul realizes he's outmatched trying to fight Angon as is and has to retreat.
Oh Jean, he didn't, much like you he was so outclassed it was funny. Joe Public had to save the day.
Gordon decides to listen to Batman and instructs his officers to avoid the monster as best as they can.
One of the squads led by a man named McCain gets pissed about this. A member of his squad is Kelvin Mao a Korean-American. Seems he and McCain have a very bad relationship as McCain is essentially calling his racist names to refer to his heritage like making fun of him by saying he only eats chop suey or calls him Meow. With McCain as their leader the Squad decides to ignore Gordon's orders though Mao is against the idea.
Regardless of this Mao is drawn into fighting Angon when she attacks an import warehouse. The squad attacks her full on but they all get preyed. Batman hears about it and rushes there but Angon's already left a pile of bodies only one of which is still intact, Mao's of course.
Mao then gets rushed to the hospital at first the crew can't even hear a pulse from him but he pulls through.
Kelvin wakes up in a daze and runs out of the hospital room onto the buildings ledge instantly noticing things like his senses are better, being able to see in the dark and so on..
Yep, he also has super durability since he's essentially super armored now.
Mao decides to use the info he's had while a police officer to borrow some items like plastique explosive and other weapons so that he can arm himself to take out Angon and avenge his squad.
Yep. Ballistic basically looks like he mugged Rambo...
After some words and planning Batman and Ballistic decide they'll need to lure Angon since she's begun killing more privately and hiding the bodies. Essentially using themselves as bait.
Man these two are outclassed.
The essential plan they have it to lure Angon into an abandoned building. When their they'll lure it to the top floor after setting the groundwork to burn up and then activate a bomb at the very top to blow her away and the two can escape.
After some battling they finally lure her to the top.
It's actually a bit of a surprise that he didn't decide to stay as an officer. An invulnerable cop would be pretty cool and then he wouldn't have to worry about getting weaponry. But I guess the regular events of being a cop seem boring to him now.
Dun dun dun!
I'll admit here that Ballistic's probably one of my least favorite of the New Bloods. His outfit for example is pretty damn uninspired and hell it looks like something that even Cable would think was a bit much. The focus in the issue on his race also seemed odd since once he was transformed he became unrecognizable and overall seemed like something thrown in to fill space.
