fifthie: tastes the best (Default)

Doin' my first post here on this forumblogojournaling community of words and pictures for something that - to my ABSOLUTE SHOCK - I... actually mostly don't entirely dislike?!

WHOA okay now that everyone's put on their glare-resistant costume-viewing goggles

Things I like:

- Emphatically, unashamedly a SUPER HERO COSTUME. No muted colors, no "lol, jeans, hoodie t-shirt" shennanigans, pretty much as SUPER HERO as a super hero costume can get.

- Tiara, bracelets, lasso, gold chest-thingy/belt. I mean it's not like THE CLASSIC wonder woman costume but it's way more faithful than anything I expected

- PANTS. I am honestly pretty glad that they went with pants.

Things I don't like:

- I don't personally care about the boots but people are gonna be upset about the boots, I am not gonna be a person who faults anyone for being upset about the boots

- GLARE, jesus christ she is not gonna have to fight much after she has LITERALLY BLINDED her foes, I seriously hope they tone that down a bit on the show

- They probably could have fit some stars somewhere on there, I mean come on

There's some stuff I would think it would've needed, like... shoulder straps, I was legit expecting to be really annoyed by the lack of shoulder straps but... in practice it kinda works without 'em?

Overall honestly I think it still probably evens out to kinda terrible, I'm just surprised to see that it's so much less terrible than what I was expecting, and terrible in such a different direction from the kind of terrible they've done in every terrible superhero thing for the last like ten goddamn years.

I'm sure some (re: a lot of) people's reaction will be THAT SHE LOOKS LIKE A HOOKER but honestly that was probably basically inevitable no matter what they did so I am kind of glad the people who made this went like THAT'S RIGHT EVERYBODY, BRIGHT RED AND BLUE VINYL, WE D.G.A.F.

'Wonder Woman': First look at Adrianne Palicki in costume -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

What’s different from what we’ve seen before? Well, how about those shiny blue pants? And blue boots instead of red ones? Compared to Lynda Carter’s get-up, this body-hugging extravaganza de-emphasizes the patriotism and seems to play up the comic’s Greek mythology. And a special shout-out to those bracelets!

Wonder Woman is being remade by Boston Legal writer David E. Kelley, who has incorporated the superhero’s signature lasso, cuffs, and plane in the pilot. NBC promises the project, if picked up to series, will offer a serious, non-campy take on the DC Comics character.

Along with Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) and Cary Elwes (Saw, The Princess Bride) have joined the cast. Hurley’s character runs a pharmaceutical company that is creating a drug that makes people stronger while Elwes plays the CEO of Diana’s company, Themyscira Industries.

two preview pages for Wonder Woman 608 (preview pages count for legality right?)

(David E. Kelley - at the very least, probably less likely to routinely kill off Amazons than J. PhilMichael Hesterzynski)

I wish that they'd gone for a deeper blue at the bottom. Kept the boots red, but with a deeper red than the comic. I like the fact that they have the lasso, and bracelets and the corset is okay. I mean, I don't know how her breasts will be contained when she's doing all sort of exertions, but... okay.

The leggings? are a good luck, because with the cut of the original costume (the bathing suit one), it could get awkward.

My only concern is that because it's David E Kelly, it's going to be more along the lines of Ally McBeal than anything.

well David E. Kelley's the Practice was REALLY dramatic. his later stuff (ally mcbeal and Boston Legal were more... quirky...) well Didn;t he also do Boston Public? that was pretty dramatic as well... he's versatile... just not sure which hat he is going to wear here...

If by "quirky" you mean "full of fucking annoying neurotic rich lawyers I'm somehow supposed to actually give a crap about when I wouldn't piss on a one of them if they were on fire", then yes, "quirky" is a good word! ;)

I tried watching Boston Legal once and I couldn't get past fifteen minutes. But then I seem to have that reaction a lot with TV--I hated Community in it's first season and I'm pretty much on a "watch two episodes, hate it and don't for three" thing with Glee since the end of the first half of the first season.

Ally McBeal was always fucking horrible, though. ALWAYS.

David E. Kelley programs are usually pretty interesting the first year or so, but after that too often the characters and situations become too ridiculous for me to continue to care about. Picket Fences was probably watchable for the longest of the Kelley shows, and I enjoyed his writing on L.A. Law. Ally McBeal was always ridiculous, but it had its charms. But I found I could no longer care after Ally had anonymous sex in a car wash. Huh, I checked IMDB, and I'd forgotten that Kelley was a creator/writer of Doogie Howser.

I don't know, Kelley can be great, but I think he needs someone to reign him in. He did better work in the 1980s and early 90s.

Community is awesome, btw.

This. I didn't last that long with Harry's Law though -- it started getting repetitive after the first episode, yurgh. It's like he was just riffing on old Ally McBeal scripts -- Harry is the fat Ally.

We can only hope that Wondie won't be the Greek Ally. Although, if she gets anorexic (as many women on that series did, trying to keep up with whats-her-name's natural skeletal thinness,) she won't have any trouble keeping her tits in that bodice. :P

I dunno, they seem pretty...packed in there. :O

Do you have boobs?

To me, those don't look 'packed in' anywhere. I own some things cut like that and they're definitely not much for running around in.

Well, I don't, so...touche'.

But hell, if the girl can invent the Purple Healing Ray, I'm sure she can invent some tape to pack them in. :P

Really? Because they look pretty pushed out there to me. That's sort of the opposite of packed in. The top only covers about half of her breasts, and the halves it is covering look more like they're being forced upwards and outwards than supported. That's not packed in; that's more like "wedged against a half-closed cupboard door, just waiting to burst out."

I would not trust you to pack groceries, sir :P
