Oz-Wonderland Chronicles: Jack and Cat Tales #2 came out four weeks ago, continuing the adventures of Jack Pumpkinhead and the Cheshire Cat in America. Also, this issue reveals what happened to the Mad Hatter after arriving in our real world.

The Mad Hatter becomes the mascot of a "Girls Gone Wild"-type video series called "Mad Tea Party." For the work, he gets paid in hats.

Ok, this is made of win. I love it when I see Oz characters from the BOOKS and not just the movie.

I think the gent will be disappointed though when he realizes there's no girl in a costume, and that the Patchwork Girl is a huge magically animated doll.

(Gah, I almost wrote "Patchwerk Girl" which is too horrible to contemplate, if you play WoW.)

I really have to try and get this -- the Oz-Wonderland chronicles may have had their problems (the biggest of which is that it takes forever for new issues to come out), but it's certainly much truer to the spirit of the original books than most of the "dark" sequels/reimaginings of Oz and Wonderland out there.

It's especially telling that they use the names "Haigha" and "Hatta" for the March Hare and the Mad Hatter -- these people have really been doing their research.

Haigha and Hatta, of course. They're both noted in the second book to have "Anglo-Saxon attitudes" that get more Anglo-Saxon as they go along. It's a turn of a phrase that always amused me, so I remember it well.

Ooooooh 8D I haven't read the original Oz books but I am happy to see the characters out and about and having other-worldly fun.

Oooh, I want a tesseramster. Or is that hamsteract?

Anyways, the artist draws a mean drunk girl. Usually drunk people either look about passed out, or not drunk at all, but here it works.
