That's, what, probably no-one under thirteen will be particularly swayed by red hair under the cowl?
And speaking only for myself, but "badass lesbian" would have been waaay more of a draw in my mid teens than, what, "a female", even if batwoman is a different character to batgirl. They still LOOK the same.

Not at all. There were Batman cartoons after the "DCAU." Barbara Gordon was the Batgirl in those too, the latest being BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, a cartoon so recent that its final episode hasn't even aired yet.
When I think about how badly disappointed I was when I discovered John Stewart wasn't the "real" Green Lantern, I can kind of understand the desire to make Babs Batgirl again.
And if they were making John Stewart the number one Green Lantern, I'd be less annoyed at Babs-as-Batgirl. But since they aren't, I just see them going "let's make it like it was when I was younger, screw everything that's happened since". And that makes me much less willing to cut them slack.

Even so, though, that's not nostalgia, if it's recently aired.
