Oh I agree with you, Britain is a very varied place. I go to university in Leicester and live in Stafford, that's only 70 or so miles and they both feel like very different places. The talk of a British accent makes me laugh too, I'd love to see an American reaction to a British university. Everybody I lived with last year had a different accent, most of us were from the Midlands though, so we all found it quite funny when our Southern flatmate started saying things in ways we weren't familiar with.
