Four pages from the first issue of Jonathan Hickman and Nick Pitarra's mini-series about time-traveling dogfighters...

They're attacked by enemy fighter jets, whose fire destroys the 02 craft, so this happens:

Apparently, that's what happens when there's no shielding from "temporal shear."

The first issue is half about the 01 pilot (the one narrating), half about his son. Dad's been presumed dead for years, lost on the Paris mission. The son, over in their native 23rd century, holds onto the hope that he might still be alive because statistically it's not impossible, but his friend points out how unlikely it is.
