flidgetjerome: Hark, a Vagrant #300 (HISTORY!!!)
[personal profile] flidgetjerome posting in [community profile] scans_daily
In the previous post for the Power Girl #26 preview (you know, the one with the adorable cosplayers) discussion turned to Peej's other costumes. I mentioned her 'renfaire' outfit from All-Star Comics #64 and a few people asked for scans so here they are.

Lovely story. The art that was used on Superman reminds me a lot of the way he was drawn by Joe Shuster.

Which was entirely Wood's intent. He drew him the same way in many MAD parodies--and after all, he was the artist on the most famous one, "Superduperman," Though in that one he doesn't look particularly Shuster.

Y'know, tweak that outfit on Peej a bit and it wouldn't be a bad costume.

I was totally expecting the 'Dark Knight of Arkan' to be medieval-Batman.

Ditto.

Of course, I also filled in "Where stands Arthur's castle, good man?" with "It's only a model."

They should not have gone there. It is a silly place.

There's just something awesome seeing Superman with squinty eyes.

I liked the All-Star Squadron era a lot. Unfortunately, they seem to have done a lot of multi-issue stories because most of what I have from it is either the beginning or the end, or maybe the middle, of something.

That's actually the JSA itself in ALL-STAR COMICS, in Gerry Conway's revival in the mid-1970s (though it tried to subtitle itself "Super-Squad," but it didn't stick), which tried to get younger readers by focusing on Power Girl(introduced in that run) and Star-Spangled Kid.

ALL-STAR SQUADRON was much later, in the 1980s, and set in the actual Golden Age during WW2. This here is set in modern times, and then they travel back to medieval times...and...uh...

DAMN YOU JSA YOU'RE TWISTING MY BRAIN

I love how the group shot standing in front of Hourman in the first panel doesn't match at all with the shot in the second panel.

It's not a Power Girl Annual.

It's just an issue of her regular series.

This was the very first super-hero comic book I can remember reading as a kid.

Ah, the days when the Golden Age Superman was treated with dignity and respect!

OH yes. And this is from one of the only ones he drew himself, working with Ric Estrada on the other issues. So here you get pure Wood-Shuster Superman.

That costume really suits her, i'd love to see it on a modern character.
