Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9

TL;DR version: Amnesia and bad continuity have left Wonder Woman unsure of her abilities, so she asks the JLA to monitor her next 12 missions to make sure she's still fit for duty. So, which JLA member will be spying on Diana this month? And which old villain makes a re-appearance? Find out below the cut...
(Wonder Woman #220, 1975. Selected panels from a 20-page story.)

As you'll recall, last issue the Atom and Hawkman decided to flip a coin to see who would monitor Wonder Woman's next case. But wouldn't you know it, the darn coin landed on it's edge!

Later, when a carrier pigeon appears in the JLA teleporter, everyone assumes that means Hawkman has won the bet. But a closer look at the notes tied to the bird's leg reveals the teeny-tiny handwriting of...the Atom!

Diana Prince is returning to New York, after finishing up a United Nations mission up in the Catskills. She quickly races upstairs for a work-mandated medical check-up:

Meanwhile, Ray (the Atom) Palmer has checked into a hotel and turns on the tv to see if there are any Wonder Woman-worthy emergencies going on:

Yup, that seems to qualify. The Atom uses his "traveling by telephone wire" trick to sneak into Diana's office, just as she gets word that all the clocks and watches in the U.N. building have vanished. Panic ensues, and Diana switches to Wonder Woman in order to deal with it:

WW orders everyone in the building to calm down. But she soon realizes that the "time-crisis" is occurring all over Manhattan. No one can tell what time it is! She can't lasso the whole island, so other methods are called for:

(Well, it didn't take long for that particular Checkov's Gun to go off, did it?)
As she starts counting the minutes, Diana realizes that she can suddenly see the city's clocks again. Not to mention some freaky dude on a flying sundial:

The Atom is tagging along, but he's still "time-blind", and can't even see his old enemy:

Since this version of Wonder Woman can't fly, she has to snag the plane with her lasso to keep it from crashing, and hang onto Chronos' ship with the other hand:

(I like that Atom says out loud what the reader is thinking: "Dude, if Wonder Woman can't handle it, what help are YOU gonna be?")
Elsewhere in the Atom's notes, he explains how Chronos created his Time-Perception Banisher, and used special contact-lenses to protect himself from its effects.

Throughout Manhattan Island, the lack of clocks is causing chaos. People don't know when to wake up, go to work, or eat lunch. Nurses don't know when to give their patients medicine. Why, even the editor and artist of this very comic book are affected:

Wonder Woman starts searching for Chronos' hidden perception-gizmo. But all she finds is trouble:

WW tries to tear herself loose from the clock-hands, but only succeeds in pulling the entire clock off the wall:

The clock stops short, and WW is thrown clear.

(Aw, Di, you should have gone for it. You could do worse. And often have.)
Wonder Woman fights her way through several other booby-trapped clocks, until she finally figures out what "landmark" Chronos was talking about. And sure enough, he's there waiting for her:

Wonder Woman blasts Chronos with his own sand, knocking out his special contact lenses. Suddenly, he can't see his own clock-weapons, and while he's flailing around in panic, Diana takes out his aircraft with a well-aimed tiara toss.

So much for that. Back at the U.N., Diana Prince fills in her boss, Morgan Tracy, about what happened. He finds it suspicious that Diana's reports always seem to involve Wonder Woman:

Back at the JLA satellite, the Atom is basking in the glow of victory. But then Hawkman shows up, and insists that HE was monitoring Wonder Woman on a mission in the Catskills...at the same time that the Atom was following her in Manhattan! Egads, what's going on here? To be continued...

It really would.

Now I am seriously pondering how to make it work as anything but a joke.

Well, it could have worked for Ms Marvel back when she had that split personality Kree thing going. Amnesia is a good option too - hero forgets who she is, wakes up in civilian identity, hears about hero's exploits and develops a crush. Add time travel for extra hijinks.

Oh and there's always the mystical personality division, like during Waid's JLA run when all the secret identities got split from the costume identities by that ID thing.

I think an actual second persona would be cheating it a bit (although the Man and Superman situation wouldn't be too bad a cheat, since they remain the same person, just split into multiple bodies).

Amnesia's an interesting idea, though. Would have to be both ways to really work, though, which verges on a split personality. Hmm.

Straight-up narcissism actually works, but it'd be hard to not have the character be pathetic (either in a comedic 'laugh at the ego' way, or an actually sad 'is their life really that empty?' way).
