Greetings True Believers!

Here are a couple scans from the latest issue of this Avengers mini.

I'm conflicted about it.

But DOOM! is always enjoyable.

I do love this cover.

I add a thought bubble in my version, "Yes, DOOM hits this on a regular basis."

Anyway. The Avengers and the X-Men have "Shut up! No, you shut up!" super-fight and Wanda puts the whammy on them all and transports herself and the Young Avengers to a place of safety...

But it isn't! Turns out in a TWIST! that Wanda's Psycho-outing was partially caused by Victor. Wanda came to him after her children "died" and he helped her control the "Life Force" and it didn't work out. One House of M later Doom's scouts found Wanda and brought her to him.

Wanda wants to restore the mutant race and then be rid of this extra power. Victor promises to help her do so.

Wiccan, Wanda and Doom begin their mojo but Patriot interferes and disrupts the ceremony. Big boom and Wanda gasps that all that extra power is gone. Where did it go??

Oh, we're doing Secret Wars now? Ok, just so we're clear.

Can't. move. eyes. the. hem. of. Doom's. robe. is. WAY. over. there.

Victor looks awfully young here, doesn't he? Not a hint of grey hair. Unlike some. Marvel at Doom's luxuriant locks and despair, Richards!

Logistically, if you go by the timeline established in Books of Doom, both Reed and Doom are only about 40-42 right now, and Reed apparently started going grey in his mid-twenties. Doom could be as young as 38 if he was recruited to college at sixteen.

That part was kinda just for laughs, but at first look he kinda looked to me that he should still be in college. Kinda dunno maybe not anymore, but maybe still a bit. Eh. :)

Well, presumably he is recreating his own face from memory, and all he's got to go on is what he looked like at twenty-one. Plus - unless, perish the thought, you believe Stan Lee might have been indulging in hyperbole - he's supposed to have "the features of a demi-god", so he must have some good genes to fall back on.

I should imagine, given the power he's just absorbed, he's given himself a complete makeover.

Ah, not a show I ever watched I have to say. I did try to watch a couple of episodes that someone sent me, but ultimately realised that I just don't care about such things enough to bother.

I wear what I think suits me, and whilst I'll take advice from a trusted source from time to time, sod what anyone else thinks.

I liked the show, as a lot of the time they were helping people who wanted to improve the way they dressed or decorated or cooked but had no idea where to start.

I assumed he used his mystical mojo to look good.

And not y'know, a scarred wreck.

Have they confirmed that he's a scarred wreck? I kinda always liked the idea that Stan Lee had that he really only had a small, barely noticible scar, but any imperfection is a tragedy to him.

That was actually Jack Kirby's personal take; Stan Lee's original stories all say that Doom was very badly disfigured, and the reaction shots to Doom unmasking in that era seem to confirm it. But Kirby's idea spread around and a couple of other writers picked it up, so that muddied the issue; John Byrne wrote a version that kind of blended the two by saying Doom only had a quite small scar initially but burned his face more severely when he put the Doom mask on while it was still hot.

I rambled a bit about the various different takes here when I did a roundup of all the different tellings of Doctor Doom's origin. Really, it's a bit of a "pick your own favourite interpretation" issue.

Ah. My bad--I knew one of them had that idea, but I wasn't sure who and I guessed.

Awesome article about DOOM's origins, nomadicwriter. Thanks for the link, and congratulations for the work.
