Avengers Academy #21 preview

ComicBookResources has the preview.

Fresh faces everywhere.

Forgive me, I'm lazy, but I am not going to put everyone of those kids into the tags.

Savage She-Hulk?

i really hope she ends up showing up later. i mean its a SCHOOL! and its on the west coast!...

Side bar... i was wondering... Anya tood the anitdote for the spider-power thing.... but the way it ened... it made it feel like she still had her spider-powers... that "THWIP at the end, was a web Thwip... not just a line... and the webline that came out looked... webby... as does the one above.... does she still have the organic webs? i dont remember her using web shooters....

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-28 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well considering that Anya didn't turn into a giant Spider monster and that Arachne and the Wasp Queen referred to her as a "true Spider", I don't think she got her powers from the Spider-Island incident.

Now where those powers came from... well I have no idea.

She took the antidote because it was mandatory, but taking the antidote she can keep her secret identity. It just didn't take her powers away.

I don't know much about this series, but why would Emma want to teach a bunch of non-mutant, junior Avengers?

Heh, I probably should've been clear I was referencing the recent Emma/Danger post.

is that Taki from the X-Terminators on the flying chair in the middle?? O_O (it looks like him, but he's barely younger than Rictor or Boom Boom, isn't he?)

[personal profile] icon_uk 2011-10-28 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, that's Whiz Kid, and he was significantly younger than the Rictor and Boomer.

[personal profile] joasakura 2011-10-28 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, man. It's good to see him being used in a book!

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-28 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, Rictor and Boom Boom were about the same age as/younger than the New Mutants. And Cannonball is supposedly 21. (Goddamned sliding timescale)

So Taki would still probably be young enough to go to high school.

Of course Leech and Artie will never grow old now, what with them now being in the same class as Franklin Richards.

Wow, is that Josh and the Sentinel? Awesomes.

[personal profile] kd_the_movie 2011-10-28 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
A west coast class apparently...

There's Ricochet, Penance, and Turbo from the Loners
Justin Seyfert and his Sentinel
White Tiger
Rocket Racer
Someone in a jet powered chair.....\
and a pterodactyl person.....

[personal profile] kd_the_movie 2011-10-28 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)

I think that is a kid with stilt mans gear...

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's the Machine Teen.

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Pterodactyl person is Batwing. Butterball's friend and former teammate.

Wow! This looks mighty fine! And I'm loving the way the Sentinel's drawn :D
Alright, looks like I'll finally have to read Avengers Academy.

Not just Penance, looks like some of the other Loners are involved in the tug of war as well.

I think that's also machine teen playing hoops with the Sentinel Kid and Bat Boy.

I wondered about Machine Teen, but I don't recall him having extending legs.

Maybe he got an upgrade. Those extending limbs are definitely mechanical.

Aww, Hank. (And *sigh* at yet another Avengers Mansion being destroyed.)

That aside, y'know who might have been a great fit for this new Academy (depending on your definition of superhuman, maybe, but still appropriate for an Avengers group), and who was the first person I thought of when I saw these pages?

Rikki "Bucky" "Nomad" Barnes.

:( I miss her already.

Ricochet and Julie Powers! Eeeee!

No Kevin Masterson/ Thunderstrike? Thought I saw him at the end of the last issue...

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm fairly sure he'll be around, he's just not on this splash page.

Great characters, sure, but too many. The best things about the other book were both the team dynamic and the student-teacher dynamic between the characters. There are too many here for that to happen.

[personal profile] long_silence 2011-10-29 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
The focus is still going to be on the first class (plus a few additions like X-23, the new White Tiger and Julie Power). The new students are just going to be guest appearances/back ground characters who won't get to do anything important.

But yeah, if you're a fan of the Loners or Sentinel or Arana, you probably shouldn't buy this book just for them. I don't see anything significant happening to them in this book.

I love how the Avengers are only recently saying, "As we all know, Norman Osborn is horrifically psychotic and a manipulative bastard, so we keep an eye on him- Spider-Man, why are you beating your head against the wall?"
