no reason it can't be a space-knife. The handle doesn't look traditional, and there's only a few ways to make an optimized fighting knife.

Geoff Johns has been trying since REBIRTH to gives us the hows and whys of Sinestro and the Guardians.

Why would one of the best Green Lanterns would go bad? Can you really view the universe on a sliding scale of chaos and order without becoming a fascist? When does protecting the universe start to be about your own ego? Etc.

Yes, but why go there at all?

Sinestro being nuanced is fine, arch=foes SHOULD be, but the extent to which the Guardians have more or less instantly mutated into power-mad dictators who can justify ANY action as for the greater good is just poor.

The Guardians had several BILLION years of existence as basically good, if occasionally short sighted protectors (cf the Manhunters). Then they're reborn to get a second chance of life and KAPOW! they're ALL dicks!

Since the Sinestro Corps war they have had their power challenged on multiple fronts, had secrets revealed and had their edicts contested from within their own faithful.

And after millenia of not having emotions, they have been forced upon them with the recent return of Krona.

Who is to say their benign nature has been scrubbed away after all this turmoil. Only Ganthet was wise and emotionally stable enough to keep the Guardians sane, and they have turned on him.

i agree, i hate the guardians not learning from their past... but green lantern has never been more interesting.

I think the Guardians had their own "go mad with power" stage. They had it, but then worked past it and learned from it. Yet, they are going through it again.

It *could* have something to do with their being reborn before REBIRTH, and somehow forgot some important elements of their billion-year lives.

But it's poisoning the well. Previously you could have all the evil organisations you wanted to clash against the Guardians and the Lanterns. now the Guardians are the ones the Lanterns are clashing against. They are taking on the role usually served by the Controllers.

An underlying role as benefactor was implicit in the Guardians nature. Now they are no better than a lot of their opponents, and there is no new counterbalancing force for "good" in the Universe to balance them.

And can they ever be trusted again if this is the case, or are they rendered as toxic as Dr Light following HIS personality retcon.

there's to much anti-authoriatarianism in comics these days. If DC would look around, there's still just as much hope of "hey maybe we'll get good leaders," out there as there is "damn out current leaders suck," out there.

Given that the superheroic genre is pretty much anti-authoritarian in it's nature (given it's tendency towards vigilante-ism and "One person can make a difference against the odds") that's maybe not too surprising.

It's perhaps the lack of any positive "powers that be" that is more of an issue.

Someone smarter than me once said that the Punisher and Batman are anarchists in the "offical" sense. The government and police aren't protecting society, so they will.

Except Batman uses minimal force and hands those he captures over to the legal system, to follow due process (in a comic book sense), that's hardly anarchic at all.

The Punisher shoots them dead, having appointed himself Judge, Jury AND Executioner, which is why I have so little time for him.

I disagree. THere was a long time in superhero books, where superheroes were basically the fastest first responders, police officers with fancier badges(Batman was actually given a platinum one) and the obsession about "oh it's vigilantism in the real world"

Yesh, well in the real world Superman catching Lois woul kill her. Things don't work the same in the comics

I'm beginning to think that the new Guardians are not actually the same people as the old ones (outside of Ganthet). Considering how they act, I'm thinking that their age-up from toddlers in GL:Rebirth didn't actually give them anything resembling emotional maturity.

Basicly, they're now two-year-olds with insane amounts of power and knowlege, but little to no wisdom to go with them. And that's a bad formula if ever there was one.

Every new issue of this series just proves more and more to me that Sinestro is totally gay for Hal Jordan. Especially last issue with the "You're no Hal Jordan" line and Sinestro busting in on Hal and Carol right when they were about to have sexy time. And now we have Sinestro chaining him up and whispering in his ear. Just tell him you love him, Sinestro! :p
